Do you ever forget?

So yesterday DH and I ran up to the mall for a quick errand and ended up at Banana Republic to look for a casual shirt for him. The salesperson was very helpful and she was dressed so well for this time of year. I kept noticing her pants... She had on the cutest dark wash jeans...they were cropped short with a kind of flare at the bottom and also sort of fringed with an undone hem. So there I was thinking wistfully (and perhaps a bit enviously) that I wish I were fashionably cool and had a fun casual wardrobe and that especially I was wishing I had a pair of jeans like that when it hit me ... I DO have a pair of jeans like that. I actually have those exact jeans, thanks to Angie's endorsement of them so many months ago. LOL.

Anyway it was fun to see them in person on someone else, and yes, you can guess what I'm wearing today.

I guess it's a good lesson that if I even have a moment of considering a new trend, I might go ahead and invest in it, as my eye will likely adjust pretty quickly and then I'll want it.

Have the rest of you who purchased these flared cropped jeans been wearing yours?

I just wore mine Friday as part of my patriotic outfit.

I never forget things in my wardrobe, but I do sometimes forget how much I enjoy them when we've moved to a different season and I'm not wearing them.

I wore those jeans just the other evening to an casual event. I've been wearing my white jeans more lately, and during the day no jeans at all (too warm) but I do really like the crops!

Now the question is: Why did you even forget?

When you wear them, are you 100% satisfied with fit? If not, do like me and head to the tailor for a minor adjustment. A good tailor will find what adjustment to make and suddenly it will become your favorite pair.

Do you have what you need to wear them with (do you have the right footwear, the right tops)?

I got the BR crop flares when they went on sale and have worn them at least 10 times. They are really comfortable and go with almost everything. My pant wardrobe is small, so I'm not likely to forget them but tops are another story.

Forgotten closet items? Not anymore because my wardrobe size is pared down! It's rare that I would bump into anyone wearing something that I have also picked for my wardrobe. Does that mean my taste is overly quirky? I hope not. I want it to mean that I'm taller than most everyone so different styles/cuts flatter!

I don't forget an item in my closet but I sometimes forget how I styled it, different combinations of items in an outfit. So, I take pictures now

Yes, I forget, and exactly under the sort of circumstances you describe. Oh, I would look good in an [x] ... oh, I have the [x] ... why haven't I been wearing the [x] ... bad closet owner...

Yep. I forget I have things embarrassingly often. Partly it's because my closet is dark and cramped so I often have trouble seeing everything, and partly because I am not the worlds most organized person to say the least. I also blame my four season climate, as there are very few things I wear year round, which means a lot of items are ignored for at least 3 months, whereby they end up shoved to the back of the closet or behind other things where I can't see them. Out of sight out of mind, and when the appropriate season comes back around I've forgotten I own them.

Usually I'll remember under the same circumstances you describe. Angie or a fabber posts an ensemble, I immediately start wanting some item, only to realize that I already own it or something similar. Oops.

Echoing Diana's comments here.....and my shoe closet!! How do you store shoes so you have access to them without having to open shoe boxes and restock? My shoe closet looks like this:

Actually, the only reason my shoes don't resemble this (and that I am able to remember my clothes) is that I'm a frequent and ruthless editor of my wardrobe and also put things away in their off season. I have a storage box under our bed with all my not-currently-worn shoes. It makes it easier for my relationship with Mr. Suz, who in any case often refers to me as Imelda.

Shoes are the one thing I do a seasonal swap for. I have to, because I keep my in use shoes in my front hallway. (And so does my husband, but he has like 3 pairs). I never wear shoes in the house so they need to live near the front door, plus there's the whole out of sight out of mind thing. There is a wall mounted shoe rack there, and usually several pairs on the floor as well. Anyway, ALL of my shoes would create a rather impenetrable mountain in said hallway, so the out of season ones live in the back of the coat closet (where there is another rack). So I can get to them pretty easily if for some reason I need my boots in July, but they're out of the way. I keep dress shoes that are rarely worn in their boxes in my closet as well.

Um, I once ordered the same floral moto jacket from two different sample sale sites. I think it was Gilt & the now defunct Amazon one, MyHabit.
Anyways since returns are a pain & not free I thought I was screwed. Luckily Amy bought my extra one.

Ha ha! Yes, I do the same thing. The other day I was trying to decide what to wear, and so I started digging through my pants/jeans drawer looking for a particular bottom. Well, I had made a mess, so I started pulling jeans out to refold them, and I found my cropped flares, which I had completely forgotten about (maybe it is something about cropped flares, ha ha). I was so happy to have rediscovered them--they were exactly the type of thing I was looking for that day.

I totally forget that I have ANY clothes when I get a bug in my head...but if I'm just sitting there, I can name every item, lol!

Too funny! Like Suz, I never forget wardrobe items, but I do sometimes forget how much I love them until I pull them out for the new season and remember how fab they are and how good they make me feel.

Anna, love that you ordered the same jacket twice!!! That doesn't happen with me with clothing. But it happens to me with books ALL THE TIME. I read a ton but have a sieve-like memory, so I'll get halfway through a book and be like wait a minute.....

Same here with books and magazines. Really, my mind is incapable of remembering anything other than which day is Friday - and even then...

I would never remember my clothes if I didn't look at a spreadsheet rather than the closet each day, it's dark in there and a little tight packed because I only use half of it. So the tracking spreadsheet is where I plan things and remember to wear them or cull them -- including shoes and bags. The closet and drawers are organized by color and item so I can find items quickly. I do forget outfit combinations though, since they are harder to see at a glance the way I track so I have to remind myself to go looking back through previous notes.

Heh, if I remove something from its usual space I'm at a loss though. I was tossing the house in search of my down hiking jacket and so worried that I'd left it at a restaurant. I finally found it two weeks later inside a pillowcase in my studio where I work everyday, I'd been using it to support something delicate while I worked on it and totally forgotten that I'd repurposed it in the spur of the moment. It had literally been in front of my face the whole time

I do this with clothes and with movies. I'm always bringing home something that looks great with actors we like and dh says, "Uh, we just watched that."
