Do you ever buy men's shoes?

My quest for the perfect Chelsea boot is ongoing, and I keep finding myself looking at the men's department. Aside from potential fit issues, am I overlooking any detail about men's shoes that would make them look dumb on me?

Mander I have never considered men's shoes. I have quite a small foot so I suspect fit would be a problem.

Interesting question, hope others chime in here.

It's been a long time but I've bought mens shoes (usually Converse type) and just a few months ago I took my daughter to the men's department to get a pair of cute (if you can believe it) steel toed work shoes. (They looked like Cons too...LOL) So yes, it can be done. No reason to leave any retail stone unturned, as Angie would say!

I often buy men's shoes! If you have a fairly wide foot, taking the men's version of your size often will work. My sneaker brogues are men's and I love them.

The only thing I think is that in a lot of dressier men's shoes, the trend is for a very elongated toebox, which I think looks a little odd. But it's worth a try anyhow, I think.

As Ceit said, my wide feet send me to the Men's dept. I also like unisex shoes such as Birkenstock with European sizing (seems my feet fit better into 39 than either 8 or 9).

I was going to say no, but I think I had some Vans in the mid 90's that were boys size 6. I have quite a narrow heel, so typical mens shoes would not work for me. I've bought and worn mens jeans, too. Why not? If they fit who cares!

I have a small foot so I've never bought men's shoes, but I thrifted some boy's patent leather oxfords (designed to wear with a tuxedo) that I love.

I have bought boys shoes!

I would TOTALLY buy mens shoes if they made them in my size. I have a strong taste for crisp and refined masculine looking ladies footwear. My pinterest board shows this hands down.

I tried them on. They are beautiful. The perfect chelsea boot, imo! But pricey. If I had not given myself strict instructions to not buy any more footwear for a year, I'd have bought them. I don't know how much you're willing to spend, but if you like these they are worth trying on.

I've never thought about buying men's shoes, if only because my feet are already too small for standard women's sizing. But it sounds like a possible hidden gem for well-made oxfords, sneakers, etc.

Oh yes. Brogues, to be specific. Manly man shoes, lol. But there are some terribly terribly girly shoes for men out there that would look great for women, IMO. Hipster stores for those.

YES !!! It is hard for me now because my foot is a bit narrow, but I used to and would in a heartbeat. Coincidentally, this past weekend at Shoptoberfest at the flea market I was manhandling ( LOL ) a pair of BEAUTIFUL congac men's brogues. They were a little pointy so they would have fit, but the size was too big...and a man who had been watching came in and swooped them up as I put them down. He had been watching me..I wonder what he thought.

I've bought kids shoes, but never men's. They don't come in my size. I would buy little boys shoes but usually they are too boxy and not refined like the adult sizes.

Wow, love those Fluevogs! So not in my price range, though...

Fortunately I don't have any width issues and my feet are on the larger side of average so the fit usually isn't a problem.

@April: In my price range, which is very much in the thrift and discount store segment, I've been having trouble finding women's shoes that have decent moderate soles. I've tried on many pairs of boots in the last few weeks and they all seem to be either so flat that I might as well be walking around in my socks, or with sky-high heels and platforms. My ideal boot would have a small heel and a moderately chunky sole suitable for lots of walking around town in the rain and the snow, but for some reason there don't seem to be many options in the middle this year.

And, well, there seems to be slightly less competition for the men's boots on eBay.

I used to, before I figured out which brands of woman's shoes fit me. I'm a size 10 women's. Men's shoes made my already big feet look even bigger and clunkier.
