Do you cut tags on scarves? (insp. by Rachy)

Another question about cutting. I have this weird relation to tags on scarves. I like to leave it so I can see the washing instructions, fabric content and brand. BUT I really dislike how it easily shows when I'm wearing the scarf. Most often I leave the tag untouched. What's your approach?

I cut them off unless they are unobtrusive and take a guess about washing.

I usually remove them. I find it just too hard to keep them out of sight. But I do agree that keeping them on can be useful- especially for an expensive scarf you might someday consider reselling.

I really like to cut the tags because they annoy me to no end when they show while I'm wearing the scarf. I usually try to cut the thread that holds them in place which avoids scratchy remnants. And then I'll use a marker to note down on the tag to which scarf they belong. That goes into a small box and when want to wash a scarf I can look through them for reference.

I also cut them off, specifically at the thread that holds them in place. This is especially true for smaller silk neckerchief scarves. For larger thicker scarves I may forget ocassionally, but once I am putting the scarf on if the tag is visible the scissors are coming out.

I cut them off. My scarves are silk and they get hand-washed.

I cut the tags off. All of my scarfs are dry clean only so washing instructions have never been issue for me.

Oh, a good one. This is the worst! I don't like the tags showing and dangling BUT I also HATE seeing that little scrap of tag left in the seam. It shows on a scarf. I mean, it's out there in the open... And this is another VERY DANGEROUS bit of cutting!

I unpick the threads which hold the tag in place because I don't like to see remnants of the tag on the scarf. Not so dangerous if I use a small seam ripper or pair of sharp embroidery scissors--and a bit of patience!

I use a sewing pick to unpick the threads, too. It's work but I dislike the little white seam left if cut.

If you want to preserve the label and instructions, just take a photo of the scarf, then a closeup of the tag, and keep a digital record.

But when they're sewn into the seam? Do y'all re-roll and stitch the hem? This kills me. I feel it's just never the same.

Wow, I didn't know I was in such minority. To me it's a bit like Rachy says, "it's just never the same" (without the tag). I do like the idea of putting the tags in a box and/or take a photo, though!

Yep, I cut tags off everything, with a small seam ripper as Gaylene says, except I'm not patient and often make holes. Then I have to repair.

If the tag annoys me I cut it off. If I wash the scarf I do it by hand.

Mostly, it depends on how much it contrasts with the actual scarf fabric. If it's a dark scarf with a white tag? The tag gotta go. If tsunami a light scarf with a white tag, it depends on whether it's a scratchy tag or not

I just had to decide this recently -- I bought a Rebecca Minkoff silk bandana with the tag just tacked on with a few stitches. For a neckerchief, removing the tag seemed like the right answer. For larger scarves, if it's unobtrusive, sometimes I keep the designer label but cut off the fabric content tag. I only buy natural fibers, which has the nice side effect that it's easy to remember what each scarf is made of. All of them except cotton are hand- or delicate-wash only. (Or, probably, dry clean only, but I ignore that and wash them carefully.)

I just assume all my scarves will be hand- wash and dry flat. I do have some acrylic muffler types I know I could machine wash
What REALLY annoys me is some cheaper scarves sew the tag into the actual seam, so it gets disrupted no matter how you pick.

Yes & no. There is no way I'm going to be fussy enough to tuck the scarf just the right way to hide them, so they must go. Cut tags are generally scratchy, so it's the thread holding them that I cut, not the tag itself. I don't wash scarves often. When I do, it's likely to be hand wash, soaking in a tub in the shower stall until my next shower, when I do it quickly and hang it up.

I am a diehard tag lover and hate cutting tags, but even I have met my match in some scarves and have had to snip them. But I hate the little stub that sometimes remains. I've been too afraid to try to go in with a seam ripper and get rid of the stub--I'm too worried that I will pick out the actual seam of the scarf instead of the one for the tag. At least the look is much improved by not having the entire tag showing!

I have probably 30+ scarves left over from when I used to wear headscarves. They weren't an issue then, since the tag doesn't usually show when they're tied on the head. Around the neck is a different matter, though.

It really depends on the scarf, to be honest; I sometimes pin the label down if it's particularly visible or scratchy. But many of my scarves are souvenirs from different countries & parts of the world, so I prefer to leave the tag in for the sake of nostalgia & completeness.

I always cut them off, and use a razor blade to cut the threads that hold the tag. Long practice has made me pretty adept at this.

I take tags off of everything. I snip close to the seam, then unravel the fabric of the tag until it is gone. I take the tags off the insides of jackets and pants and tee's, too (the ones that are sewn into the side seam). In fact, it was kind of funny--I recently realized that I'd been leaving the tags on towels and bath mats and such and I just took all those off, too. I can't explain why I was oblivious to THOSE tags, but they are gone now.

Wow, those really drive me nuts, only not on myself but others, too:-)). I'm just so weird-I keep cutting them of from my friend's scarves, too(if they allow me:-)). It's so embarrassing to wear a scarf which do have tags, as they always attracts my (probably unwanted) attention there...Guess I have a weird eye, so I use a seam ripper and so the tags always come out without any damage and leave all clean!

Thank you all! I enjoyed reading all your answers and have come to the conclusion that I'll remove tags with a seam ripper if they annoy me. I already did on two scarves and I'm still alive. I think Rachy, Gigi and Ignorant Awareness summed up me thoughts on scarf tags beautifully.
