Do these shorts look flattering?

I'm such a sucker for styling. Do you think these would be flattering on someone who is not tall and skinny? I've never tried Gap shorts before but do like their denim. I'm thinking about trying them using the Friends and Family discount (that ends tomorrow.) Thoughts?

It will depend on your legs and what lengths look good on you. Also, length #1 would be longer on me than the model due to my height. I like the way #2 is styled better. Shorter shorts tend to be more flattering on those of us who aren't as tall.

I'd be a little cautious about the pockets as this style can pucker out and create unwanted detail around the hips.

You're right on about the length and I didn't even think about the pockets, Denise. I should have mentioned that one of the main reasons I was considering these is that they come in petite. Where do you find shorts? My favorite style was a Limited bermuda that I picked up at TJMaxx a couple of years ago. They are in sad shape and need to be replaced : (

Can you try them on in the store? I find that I really have to try shorts on to know how they will fit. And most don't end up fitting as well on me as I think that they will.

Honestly, my best shorts are ones that I made out of pants that weren't PPL or had frayed at the bottom. All of my bermudas used to be full length pants, and I made two of them skinnier through the thighs so that they fit just the way that I wanted them to (they had been trousers before, not skinnies). I don't know if you sew, so that tip might not be much help...

For 1, I think I prefer longer shorts a little slimmer through the leg, like Kate said. For 2 I actually have some similar shorts where the leg balloons a little on purpose. I am short and when I am working out (not now) my legs, especially thighs, get bulky, and I still think they worked. Worth trying for sure.

Thanks, Kate and Scarlet. I agree that shorts are hard to fit! Thanks for confirming my doubts about the first pair--the legs are quite wide.
@Kate: I can sew (grudgingly) but I don't have any pants that aren't jeans, if you can believe that! I never see petite sizes at my local Gap--I'd have to order on line.
@Scarlet: I liked the BF look of the second pair. Thought they might accommodate my bulky thighs : ) Perhaps I should try those.

Yeah, you definitely have to get them on your body. I try to get mine so that they juuuust cover the saddlebags, lol. That way I feel like my legs aren't shortened too much, but they still don't look like tree trunks. Since Kate mentioned it, I realized my favorites are all too-big-jeans chopped into shorts -- looser than regular jeans, but still shaped to the legs. Maybe this is important for petites? To make sure there's not too much volume that will overwhelm the body?

Generally, I think you need to be tall and skinny to pull these off, but I can see #1 with a high platform sandal.

I'm not tall and I wear cute Bermudas with flats a voluminous blouse!

You have to try them on (then model them for us, of course!). You are very narrow through the hips and thighs, so that might mitigate the petite factor. They look like they have lots of potential!

Okay, you've convinced me they have potential and that I'm not totally off my rocker. I'm going to give them a try even though I'm sick of returns : P Thanks for your opinions, I will post my findings ASAP!

I have about 3 pair that are similar in shape to #1, so I sure hope that they work on petites. I love the caramel color. Can't wait to see them.

I wear Bermuda's all the time in the summer so I like #1. #2, I'm not a fan of the cuff, it makes the legs shorter.
