Do these shoes look stylish enough?

Rachylou suggested I look at Taryn Rose shoes for more comfortable work shoes/heels. So I took a look and here are some that caught my eye. What do you think? Do any of these look stylish enough or do they look too "orthopedic"? The leopard wedges look cute, but is it too weird to have the elastic strips covering the top of the foot? The peep toe pumps come in pewter, patent black and suede black, but the heel is 3 inches...not sure if that is too high. Which of these shoes (if any) would you wear?

I actually kind of like #2 but I wouldn't go so far as to call them
blazin' stylish. Read an article where she explained that for proper
support sides of the shoe have to be higher. Doesn't seem she
followed through with that.

except for #6 and that does look too orthopedic and heavy to me.

I don't think any of them look orthopedic! I don't care for the leopard, but that's just because I'm not a fan of animal prints. The style itself I think I would have to see on because it's so different.

I really like the peep toe pumps. I have fussy feet, but am sometimes able to sear a 3 inch heel, especially a chunkier one like that. Maybe you could try wearing a pair around the house and see how they feel.

The other two with lower heels are cute, too.

I'm going to be a big spanner (sorry, Rachylou).

I have very fussy feet and am prepared to pay for great looking peds that make them happy. I have had *zero* luck with Taryn Rose - and that goes the same for my clients. You might have luck, though. However, I feel it my duty to tell you that my expectations for this brand were very high and nothing has ever worked.

1, 6 & 7 I would wear with bootcuts or widelegs

2 I personally would pass on this option.

3, 4 & 5 are lovely, am I remembering correctly, are you a doctor? If so are you at a desk for most of the day or running around wards, if the later these may be a little high.

Angie, thanks for the input...are there other comfortable shoe brands I should be looking at? What are your fussy feet comfortable in?

Roseandjoan, yes I'm a doctor. Some days I'm in the office but standing up for a good part of the day. So far I have been able to get by wearing my stack heel pumps on those days. Then some weeks I'm on the wards running around all day and that's where I really need super comfortable shoes...I don't think pumps would work for those days.

I like all of them except #2, which looks really therapeutic to me. There are videos on Zappos for a few of these if you want to see them "in action".

Are you a Fluevog type? They have some amazing shoes with a great comfort factor. Not for everyone but check out some examples:

I will personally vouch for the Malibrans (last pair) which I have in red and are so comfortable yet lovely on - I wear them to court and get compliments from female judges, clerks, and clients!

I agree with Angie. I do have one pair of Taryn Rose sandals that I wear a lot and are pretty comfy (they are the cheaper Taryn by Taryn Rose line) and they do have an ingenious feature that I like, which is an actual hard arch support piece attached to the sole. That said, I paid about 25% of retail for them, and would NOT pay full price. Her shoes are WAY overpriced in my opinion. Other Taryn Rose shoes are reasonably comfortable for heels but nothing special; you can get Clarks or something similar that's just as comfy for about 1/4 the price. In general they seem to run really narrow too, which is OK for me in sandals but not in closed toe shoes.

Alaskagirl, thank you, I LOVE those Fluevog shoes! I think these are really more my style than the Taryn Rose. Too bad I already have a couple of red ankle strap pumps or I'd be all over those red Malibrans that you've got. That third pair you posted looks fairly similar to the Prada pumps so maybe I should do a head to head. I had a look at the site and here are some more that make me swoon--especially the first one! Beautiful! It looks like there is a Fluevog store in San Francisco..I'll have to make a trip out there to try them on!

Oh my I love all of the sencond set of picks. Now I will be heading to that site next! I don't mind the original picks except for #2 & #6. They are just too "mature" looking.

I've never had luck with this brand. I do have super fussy feet and I was so hopeful that they would work for me. But nope... The only thing to do is to go in person and get fitted. My feet are so fussy that I am willing to pay for good shoes.

My 2 inch Fidji's are probably my most comfortable "heels" I've spent full days shopping at the mall in them and my feet were fine. Good luck with your shoe hunt!

Goldenpig, I am also a major fluevog fan.

I have a pair of Malibrans and shoe#8 from your list. I've also tried on and liked #1, #2, #3 and #7 from your list. #2 and #3 are way more comfortable than they look - I would own them if I only had a place to wear them.

Have you read the Barking Dogs blog? All they do is try on and feature comfy shoes, so you might find some good leads. There have also been lots of threads about comfy shoes here at YLF, so a search might turn up some good ones.

Good luck! It can be tricky to find stylish yet comfy shoes, but it can be done with a bit of determination :).

I've heard that Taryn Rose used to be good several years ago but she changed up somethings and they're definitely not as good as they once were.

Goldie, I could write a book on fussy feet and their needs with my own feet at the top of the list.

Most of my clients have fussy feet, and the important info here is that feet are fussy in different ways. Bunions, arch support, width problems, toe numbness, small heels, sensitive skin, pinky toes that hook, cramping - to name but a few challenges. Each challenge demands a different brand and style of shoe

Have you tried Cole Haan? They have nike soles built in to them. I have a pair on order right now so I will report back. The ones I tried on in the store that were close to my size seemed very cushiony and comfy.

The good news is, once you find a few brands that seem to meet your feet's (?) needs, chances are they will again work for you in the future!
About the shoes in the beginning post: I think the elastic is a kind of casual/sporty look and I'm seeing it everywhere. It's not my first preference, but if the shoes were super-comfy, and I was going to wear them mostly at home or running errands I would not rule the elastic look out.

modgrl, I'll have a look at the Cole Haans. Air soles sounds great! Which style did you order?

Angie, I'm not sure if my issues are specific to my feet, or just because I'm not used to wearing heels. After I wear heels (they're in the 2 inch range, stacked heels) for a while, my toes get cramped and painful because they're starting to slide forward from being on my toes and they get smushed into the toe box and if especially the front is tapered, that makes it worse. I will start to get blisters on the tops of my fourth and fifth toe knuckles. Also sometimes there is rubbing against the side and base of the great toe (where bunions form). I rarely wear heels and don't think I have actual bunions (my mom has worn heels all her life and has huge ones), but recently when I was wearing Dansko sandals and did a lot of walking up and down hills for an afternoon, I started to develop blisters in that area so maybe there is some pressure there too. And finally, my calves and shin muscles also start to cramp when I've been in heels all day. I don't know if these are things you just get used to after you wear heels a lot or whether I need specialized footwear. I have a pair of Clark T straps and Easy Spirit ankle strap pumps that I've been wearing again the last couple weeks and they seem to be tolerable as long as I can take sitting breaks. But those Naturalizer pumps start to make me limp after I wear them for a short while--it really hurts my feet. I don't think it's just the pointiness of the toe box either, because I have some super pointy Banana Republic kitten heels that I can wear pretty comfortably. I think I'm just not used to being up in heels since I've pretty much lived in sneakers/clogs/mocs all the time. On the other hand, those Galaxy wedge boots were super comfortable. So maybe wedge heels are the way to go? Also, I have some super rounded toe pumps, but I don't wear those that often because they look pretty clunky/heavy.

These were also very comfy in the store. They didn't have wide but the leather is so soft that it molded to my foot. If I was looking for a shoe like this, I would have bought them. I didn't get them because I am not in the market for black shoes right now and I don't like the other top/wedge color combinations.

Ah. How about a lower heel? 1.75 inches? My favourite heel height is 1.5 inches

Also, you need a VERY cushioning footbed, soft leather, and body glide for your blisters. Works like a charm.
