Patty, wearing socks sure does stretch out leather shoes. There have been a couple of times in the past when I've bought a pair of high heels that were a bit pinchy in the toe (I prefer my high shoes to be on the snug side, and let them conform to my feet), and I've purposely worn them around the house with thickish socks to stretch them out. Works like a charm.
If you wear your shoes with hose or very thin socks, I shouldn't think it will stretch them out so much that you can no longer wear them with bare feet.
