Do I wear earrings with a statement necklace?

I think it depends on your hair too. If you have pierced ears and shorter hair like me you would feel better not leaving ears bare. what I do is wear very small gold or my very thin gold small hoops with the gold, and very small silver with the silver. I think the pearl studs would work just fine too.i researched this a while back and best I could find said-since the necklace is the statement piece, you do not want to call attention to the earrings. If your hair is such that you do not see ears then go with the no earrings.

There is some thought to having just one focal point of jewelry, especially when it is a statement piece. But I do see plenty of gals wearing both earrings and necklaces at the same time. Pearl studs sound very subdued and will still allow your necklace to take center stage.

I always wear earrings with a statement necklace, but I keep them subdued so they don't compete with the necklace. I wear both gold and silver, so I bought these from Erwin Pearl. One side is gold, the other is silver. I'm also a fan of mixing metals, but I want it to look intentional, so I might add a third piece (bangle maybe) that is two-tone if I'm wearing gold jewelry with my white gold watch. I think your pearls would also be good if they work with the necklace and your outfit. I wear my diamond studs with platinum setting with gold all the time. It's not the prongs folks are looking at...it's the diamonds!

I always wear earrings. I think pierced ears without earrings look weird. A diamond stud set in white metal is neutral enough to wear with gold, IMO. Pearls also go with both gold and silver. Earrings light up your face!

I Feel unfinished if I leave out the earrings. Diamond studs are great, or just another type of post earring.

But the other night on the news, one guest had on both hoops and a statement necklace. Both were gold and the two together really framed her face nicely! It made me think again about the earrings with a statement necklace conundrum.

I think it really depends on the necklace. Like karymk points out, it can totally work with both. I also feel unfinished without earrings, so I try on different pairs to see what works, and sometimes a necklace does look best with very small or understated earrings, sometimes it can handle more than that.

I've never followed a "rule" about not wearing both or not matching or whatever. I judge combo by combo.

I always have earrings on (two pairs), regardless of what other jewelry, or lack thereof, I'm wearing. The top pair is usually diamond studs, but I'll swap them out for other things too. If I'm wearing a statement necklace, then I'll usually wear simple hoops, studs, or pearls. Occasionally I'll do more prominent earrings with a statement necklace, or wear two sets of larger flashier studded back earrings. I have no qualms mixing gold and silver (and copper and rose gold and bronze, for that matter), especially if looking at just the setting of small earrings. Many of my statement necklaces are gold, and my little diamond studs have a silver setting so I've got auto mix right there. I really think you'd be just fine wearing silver set earrings with a gold necklace. I wouldn't match the stones though, wear something that's similar but not the same if you feel like wearing something that matches more.

I don't wear both - if the earrings are small I think they look odd with a statement necklace & large earrings compete.

It also depends on you - for instance I have a big head and a wide face - so big and wide it's difficult for me to find hats or glasses big enough - and I absolutely can carry off both big earrings and a big necklace that would overwhelm many a daintier gal.
