Do I really need burgundy boot/booties?

I bought the Donald J Pliner burgundy boots at NAS. But they're extremely difficult to put on due to my high instep. Today I struggled for about five minutes before giving up. I'm going to return them. I think they would have looked good with my outfit today, but I think what I wore also looks fine.
I have various black ankle boots and booties, and various shades of taupe and tan. Now I'm thinking I can get away with my existing collection.

If they hurt, NO! But, but, but I have burgundy booties (Nordstrom's own label, faux suede) that I have been wearing for 4 years and I LOVE them. They really add pop to a bland jeans and T shirt outfit.

Need? I'd go look at the shoe shelf and take in the glory and then ask yourself once more That said, I like the idea of burgundy or oxblood shoes. Maybe an oxford or wedge sneaker if boots won't cut it? I also have a crazy high instep, and an extra bone under each ankle to boot (ha ha boot), so I feel your pain.

I've actually been eyeing those Rebecca Minkoffs.
The DJP isn't uncomfortable, just nearly impossible to put on. They're fine once they're on. But I don't need to battle with my shoes, and I already have a gym routine.

Anna, odd question but... do you have a boot- or shoehorn? Just wondering if that might help. I have a very high instep too. I've found that some boots I can't get on without one slide on much more easily using one. As in almost unwearable to totally wearable. Mostly a problem with boots since I like a fitted ankle and fitted ankles plus high insteps equal trouble. I just have an Ikea boot horn, but I'm on the lookout for a cool vintage one now that I've discovered how indispensable they are.

I think I'd have to get a long handle shoe horn because of the shaft height.

ETA: Crackin' me up Anna! I totally understand. I sometimes feel like shouting, "Add a zipper dammit! Cheapskates." Recently bought these and it was a joke trying to get them on. No way.

I refuse to buy boots that require me to use a plastic bag. I'm just going to return them. It's all too much trouble.

That's a shame, those are gorgeous boots! But I think you made the right decision. Another equally fab pair are bound to come along someday and in the mean time, you seem well covered.

Would a cobbler be able to stretch them enough that you could get them on more easily? Assuming you're motivated enough to keep them? My cobbler has successfully stretched a few of my shoes that needed just a bit more room.

Stretching doesn't work for me. I had a long sad case with a pair of Frye ombre Veronica slouchs, went through two rounds of stretching and I still couldn't get them on.

They were a 10 and I already returned them.

Yup. I am normally an 8.5 and the size-up was because of the high instep. But they're beautiful. I just refuse to pay full price for them and will probably see them sell out.
