Do I need a white scarf?

I have a bit of a white scarf obsession at the moment! I don't have one and I have already passed one on that wasn't right but I still want one, I'm wondering if it will be easy to wear and with what? I think I need some common sense thinking here please ladies x

Louise - My instinct is to say that if you are having trouble deciding what to wear with it...then you might want to wait for awhile longer. With that being said, if you did purchase one I know that the wonderfully wise ladies here at YLF would help you create some great looks using the scarf.

I like the idea of a white scarf because it'll create instant contrast with darker tops. But I wouldn't like white next to my face because it's kind of stark. Have you tried one on and how does it look on you?

Will a white scarf go well with your coat? I was gifted with a cream scarf that is wonderful with my black coat and jackets..sort of like a cream bag would be. Get a shade of white that looks great next to your skin and not whiter than your teeth or whites of your eyes (or so I've heard).

I'm a firm believer in going with your gut - and your gut is telling you that you *need* a white scarf! I say find one you like and go for it.

If it's a light, cottony scarf you're contemplating, I have no doubt that once it's in your closet you'll find a dozen ways of working it into your outfits - esp. come spring and summer. I do second Joy's recommendation that the shade you get is not whiter than your teeth. Unless your teeth are as white as Pamela Anderson's choppers - and whose are, in the real world?! - perhaps an off-white or creamy shade will work best.

I'm thinking I want a lightweight cottony one, i wonder if i need to wear white somewhere else in the outfit for it to work? x

What inspired the obsession? Is it specifically white? Do you have certain looks in mind? I am white-challenged, so I am curious to know what your creative mind is thinking...

I bought a "winter white" scarf for $15.00 at Nordstrom's, from the Brass Plum department. (It's the junior department, and none of the clothes fit me, but sometimes they have great scarves for cheap!)

I love this scarf, and I wear it with black, but I like a lot of contrast in my outfits.

This scarf can feel a bit costumy if I'm not careful - very Amelia Earheart/aviator/British. In fact, I was inspired by "Downton Abbey" to pair it with my Irish hacking jacket just for fun (I didn't wear this out of the house.)

I'm with tarzy - I like contrast and don't believe that you *need* something else white/cream to make it work with an outfit.

However, I can certainly see such a scarf working with a print that includes the same shade of white/cream ... skirt, shirt, blouse, jacket ... I'm envisioning it, and I'm smiling. I think you will look great!

AG I'm not sure where the idea of wanting one came from and I don't have any specific outfits in mind!! Hence why it seems a daft obsession!

Yes! It's a scream. And the portrayed fashion world isn't even that exaggerated. I worked in a very similar environment for a long time.

Louise, I've seen the very DVD at my local T...o superstore for £3 today. Definitely worth viewing, if not for the outfits (or the fashion world after Angie' words), then it must be for Meryl Streep. I'll watch a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g she is in.
