Do I Need A Boyfriend! - UPDATE

Well boyfriend jeans that is! We seem to slow on the uptake and while Gap has had them, very few of our stores have had boyfriend jeans ... until now.

I saw these I the Target catalogue and I think I will go and try them on Friday.

I see a lot of BF jeans in lighter washes on line but I have a strong personal preference for darker wash. There is another wash avail which is lighter (called cornflower blue) but that's too light for me.

I just wondered what your preference was as far as wash on BF style jeans, and can you see this style working for me. I was pretty sure I was giving this trend a miss but I like the look of these, and it have started to enjoy semi tucking so I'm giving them another thought.

UPDATE: I so appreciate everyone's input:) I tried a few pairs on yesterday and it was a bust! I really don't think the look is for me. Not particularly flattering for me and I just don't like myself in that 'silhouette'. Fun to try tho. xxx

Wow....you got my attention with that headline
I'm with you, I really like the look of BF jeans and the casual easy style but I haven't found any that I like on me.
Sussans have some I was planning on trying, but they are a light wash too.

I've never gotten on board with the BF jeans look but Claire's recent pic with the okalas has me wondering. This is an absolutely "me" thing but I find that although I prefer a slightly looser fit to a very tailored fit, the more exaggerated loose fits seem to work best on a very slender frame so I have left them to my slimmer sisters. Perhaps I should open my mind to the possibilities though.

I usually prefer the dark wash in jeans. However this past spring I purchased the ON light wash cropped BF (Angie suggestion). I figured it would be a great way to try the trend without an investment.
I ended up really enjoying them and wore them much more than I thought I would. However, I am a WAHM and I did find them quite casual. I have put them away now because of the wash, and they are cropped, and it is pretty cold here

I purchased a skinny boyfriend jean in a light wash last Spring and wore them to death. They were very casual, however. I found them so versatile that as the temperatures cooled here as we approached Fall, I went ahead and got the same ones in a dark wash. They do feel more polished and would probably work better for your style.

Here are the ones I bought (shown in the darker wash). They bag out significantly while wearing them, FYI.

Worth trying on for sure! I have found them less versatile in the cold months as I am not willing to expose any ankle skin. But I think you are headed into summer, and these could really work for you!

In a different climate from mine I consider BFs great for the summer (cool, loose, easy) and for summer I prefer a lighter wash. But then again...in summer it is too hot for jeans here! So I passed along my very light wash BFs to my daughter.

I currently own a slouchy skinny (like a slim BF) with distressing and a mid-faded wash, and a darker wash (with some fading) full length BF. These are more useful for my climate.

I'd consider when you'd be wearing, whether you'd always wear rolled or if you need full length, as well as the degree of bagginess that feels right to you.

BF's (Gap) got me loving jeans again.. they are just so freaking comfy. Mine are long enough to wear down, and cover the ankles, and I can also roll them up. I also prefer a dark wash, and not too much distressing... hard to find! I say go for it, I love mine.

I like dark denim and my answer to the boyfriends is a pair of dark skinny sized up Paige jeans from the Rack. I like skinny boyfriends to not have to deal with the leg volume. I loved my Kut Catherine boyfriends for summer. You might consider white. In fact, they are still in rotation and it's almost November.

I am yet to own one (mainly because of budget restrictions), but I agree that every woman should have atleast one (:D) for those days when she wants to feel a bit relaxed (and able to breathe better!). Boyfriend jeans, a dressy top and heels - an edgy bomb! They can be dressed up or down so easily!!

Oh I prefer a darker wash. The lighter wash looks more casual IMO.

I'd try them, but I like a longer leg length for my jeans. I don't think I can get my head around cuffing them, and wearing them shorter. That's just not a "me" look. I still prefer my skinnies, which I buy in a longer length for "scrunch" around my ankles, but if I found the right pair of boyfriends, they'd be mine for sure!

I am a big fan of BFs and I really like them to mix up my jeans wardrobe a bit (although I do love my skinnies too). My personal preference for wash is actually for something lighter or dark with more distressing/fading. I do not like the uniform super dark blue wash on BFs; I think it's too formal and clashes with the more casual style. That said, I do have a pair of medium-dark wash SBFs (but they have some fading) and like them.

Also, I think you need different pairs for wearing cropped/rolled and full length/ankle length. At least for me there is just too much length differential there for a single pair to work.

My favorite wash is the sort of beaten-up dark blue that looks like a pair of old Levis. I was early on the BF wagon and the Gap ones were perfect.

You may have to rethink some toppers as my usual long loose tunic looks with skinnies didn't go so well with BFs. Slouchy sweatshirts and more cropped/tucked looks with less volume worked better for me.

My human bf has asked why I wear tight jeans, and said he can't imagine wearing anything that form-fitting; he likes the way they look, but guesses they're uncomfortable. I'm happy to try a looser cut (a bit like putting a sweater on bc your mum's cold), though I have no idea what to look for or what defines a BF jean besides looseness.

Sounds like there's a Team Lighter Wash / Team Darker Wash thing going on ...

I think you ought to try them! And if you don't like this particular pair, persist in looking, because there are SO many variations in fit and silhouette with them. I agree with Suz's advice to consider whether you want full-length or ones that will always be worn rolled shorter. For your first pair, that is.

Keep searching. I usually dislike a light wash jean but purchased a pair of bf's last spring because of the comfort and absolutely loved them. I found the light wash paired nicely with black which I know you love like I do. The light also seemed easier to dress up which seemed counter intuitive but they are fab with a white blazer and heels for example.

I am actually decomissioning mine. I feel that I have given them a fair chance, but the only thing they do is to make me look larger, which is the antithesis of what my style goals are.

I like the jeans you were wearing in the blue kimono pics, actually.
Did the Target ones come in different lengths? Too long and the roll can look bulky, and you can't wear un-rolled unless you alter, too short and they are non-PPL. unrolled, so not so versatile.
I have the latter problem with the Gap ones, but love them for the very light, super soft denim material and the slightly distressed look.
So you can probably achieve the BF feel by shopping your own denim collection, without actually buying, a sort of BF fantasy
