To try on a really nice looking fuchsia sheath dress I just saw? I am with my daughter in Toronto and could try it on Wednesday when we are back for her continued appointments. It is pricey but much reduced. I wide away without trying simply because it is obviously not a high priority item, pace Angie's bog post.

Try it on! If it's fab, you can go home and think about how it plays with the other kids in your closet.

And I also look for an opportunity to encourage patience in my DD!

I would be powerless in the face of fuchsia....but what is the point of trying it on if you may not buy it? Could it be fab enough to displace some other item? Listen to me trying to give advice on shopping restraint! GO ahead, and post pics!

I agree that research must be done. Trying on is a part of that research. Purchasing is necessary if it will become a workhorse or elevate you wardrobe.

Yes! You have to make room in your life for serendipity. Interestingly, I didn't take Angie's list as a "do this in this order" recommendation, but rather as something to help you prioritize a search or purchase. You should still grab something great that unexpectedly appears in front of you, even if it wasn't the focus of your shopping search, if your budget allows it. You don't want to affront the shopping gods by ignoring their gift!

Not buying is not the same as not trying, unless you believe you would buy the dress if it fit perfectly. I am a big fan of trying and not buying. But seriously Angie mentioned 2 weeks ago that there is a shopping category called "unintended delights". This fuchsia dress (which is a lovely color on you) might be one of those unintended delights. I am in full agreement with K Can Shop.

Well, there's the rub. If it fits perfectly, I am very likely to buy it! I had to go pick up my daughter but will have more time to try it on Wednesday and if it looks likely I will post pics. On the hanger, it was certainly appealing. Really nice quality and although, as i said, it was pricey (even at 50% off) it was a true cross seasonal item and might even be my LBD (except for funerals...heh). It would work with numerous jackets already in the closet. But the only way to know is to try. Thank you for your enabling!

I think you should try it. The dress you ordered over xmas never came and this might fit that bill well. If you love it then step 2...lol

Yippee! Pics on Wednesday. It was in a teeny tiny boutique so nobody else is going in to buy it. They had some GREAT SW shoes and booties on sale, too, but the ones in my size were not the styles I liked so I said no to that. I am getting very good at walking away from less than 10s.

Remember, there is always room for unexpected delights.

Try it and see! Otherwise, you will always regret it and wonder what could have been. Especially if you are still thinking about it Wednesday. Never know, you might try it and hate it. Then, it won't haunt you.

Fuchsia is fabulous on you, Suz! Not to be a wet blanket, but......you tired of your fuchsia jacket and you aren't getting as much wear out of your fuchsia pant suit as you hoped? (Or maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.)

But it can't hurt to try it on : )

Of course try it on! Since you say there aren't a lot of good stores in your city, nor do you want to shop online, how are you going to expand your wardrobe if you don't try on clothes that call out to you? Don't be too logical on building a wardrobe, Suz, it just won't work! And I'm looking forward with great anticipation to the treasures you'll find (and buy!) in London.

Pil, you make a good point. But the reason I don't wear the fuchsia pantsuit is that it's dated and the trousers don't work - I actually DO wear the top that came with it pretty often in spring/ summer, and while I put the jacket away after my China trip (where I wore it almost every day) I'm not really tired of it...just don't like the poor quality. So...we'll see on Wednesday!

I have a fuchsia sheath dress, "Calvin Klein" low-end Ross/TJMaxx type, great price but I would have paid more for how it fits. It is currently a favorite. I can play up the fuchsia at face level or tone down with dark jacket or buttoned cardi over all so it's like having a fuchsia skirt as well. The color lends itself to all kinds of shoe colors including nude shoes or variations which is a goal for me, as the lighter shoe colors are more flattering with pale legs/hose, especially more forgiving when wearing less glam shoe styles for fussy feet comfort.

A great fitting fushia dress could be just what you need for your appearance capsule. (I think that's what you called what you wear for readings and talks at conferences). Think if it will travel well.
