Do I have a suit?

So I really wasn't actively shopping for a suit when I walked into one of my local stores. I wasn't even planning to scope out skirts despite my burgeoning love for pencil silhouettes. But when you stumble on one in the softest tweed fabric ever, in your favourite black and white combo, at a price that fits within your more limited budget, what's a girl to do? :)I liked the texture -rich matching jacket just as much, and I fell in love with the silky blue shell the sales associate swore I had to try. The result is something I hope can pass muster as a suit, but that I plan to split up into individual components more often than anything.
Thoughts, mesdames?

I'm sorry, Michelle, I'm not loving the jacket. The solid color of the sleeves throws me for some reason. I love the skirt though! It would look great with a solid black or white blazer IMHO.

I am not sure how you are going to use the suit. If it for anything formal (say an interview), it will not work.

I will say I am an accountant, and we are a more traditional lot. That means black or navy interview suits. Other areas, like HR, are a little more fashion forward, but even there, a patterned suit won't be seen well.

That aside, as just a regular suit for work, I like the skirt. It has a nice drape. I can't see the top well, but I am not a fan of the jacket, sorry. I can't place my finger what my eye sees, but I think a more structured jacket would do better.

I am not very sure about making a suit.
The print is very big to make this a traditional suit.I like the idea of the jacket with that top and a pair of jeans for example , and the skirt with most of your tops.I just think that together it is too much.

Is it possible to buy as separates, Michelle? Because the skirt is terrific and would work with a black jacket as a similarly less formal suit.

Michelle, I ADORE the skirt. Great print, perfect fit, great length! But I'm afraid the jacket isn't doing it for me. It's too much pattern on for professional attire when worn as a suit, and there is something about the color blocking on the jacket that doesn't seem fresh or fashion forward to me-but I can't specifically put my eye on it. Maybe it's the length AND the pattern AND color blocking that is reading a tad frumpy to my eye in a way that's very different from your typical tailored modern classic style.

Would it be doable to keep just the skirt? I've found my black/white patterned skirts to be so versatile.

I agree with the others, I love the skirt on you and it seems like a great separate to work with. I don't really care for the jacket, I think the pattern scale is too big for a jacket and isn't probably the best choice for a suit.

I really wanted this to work for you but the jacket doesn't look like it fits very well. It overwhelms your petite frame.

I think something more tailored would flatter your slim waist and look more youthful. The skirt however is a keeper! I would suggest shortening it by an inch or two to show off your pins.

I also wanted to say that the silk shell is BRILLIANT and such a gorgeous color. I also think that one is a keeper. (Would be great with your new black pencil skirt too!)

Thanks a lot for the feedback, guys. I won't mess about --that jacket will be returned on Monday. I can keep the skirt if I want... But do you think it's repetitive to hang on both to this and the black skirt with pleather panels? I know they're fairly different, but one can have too many pencil skirts, yes?

No! No such thing as too many pencil skirts! This one is very different from the black one, and it looks like a million bucks on you! I vote keep!

Okay, you KNOW I'm giving you a biased answer, but I think you can and should keep both because of the differences in the color, pattern, and texture.

I get such a lot of use out of my various pencil skirts. And also, if you're up for it, I think that this skirt could work well with some pattern mixing (more on trend and less "overwhelming pattern" than the skirt with the jacket.) For example, I have a black and white geometric patterned skirt that I recently wore with a black mesh blouse with tiny white polka dots, and LOVED it, and it got rave reviews on YLF as well. Could be fun to play with!

ETA - as for whether one can have too many pencil skirts? I'm going to avoid incriminating myself on that one.

Keep both skirts! Just my humble opinion:) You look great in both, and they are very different and both versatile.

I agree with everyone else here. Keep the skirt, return the jacket. But feep the shell! It is so lovely on you. You look so good!

No, NOT redundant to keep this skirt. They're quite different actually, given that this one has a fairly bold pattern.
