Last weekend I attempted to give new life to a pair of favorite flats. They fit well and I really like the style, but they are creased and worn, especially at the toes and heels. I decided to cover them in glitter to see if they will pass as a festive option for some casual events this season.

It was very easy!

I coated them with Mod Podge, leaving about 1/8” of and inch around the top (so the glitter doesn’t scratch my feet), dusted with glitter and allowed the layer to dry. I thought I would need more than one layer, but the combination of chunky black glitter on black shoes resulted in good coverage. After the layer was dry I added a layer of hairspray to seal them. Then I wore them to the home of my greatest enemy to allow any loose glitter to fall onto their floor. Just kidding. I try to live life enemy-free, so I walked around the block. I’m sure they will still shed so I will avoid wearing them in people’s homes and will only wear them out to restaurants.

They are no Jimmy Choos and I probably shouldn’t wear them in the rain or snow, but for less than $10 and 30 minutes of time it was a worthwhile experiment.
