Laura, not to put in a spanner, but sweaters are worth spending the $ - if you are petite. Because this is one item that can't be easily tailored. (or if it can, I don't know how to find a tailor who can do it).
I was so thrilled when BR started offering petite sweaters! And in colors other than the most basic black, grey, white, brown too! I think nearly all my cardis are from BR now. The quality is quite nice as well - especially their merino wool.
But yes, Angie, please talk to the BR CEO and let him/her know that petites shouldn't be charged extra. You can tell him/her that shiny says one of the reasons she's a devoted BR fan is that they do petites just right... their sizing is consistent, they offer colors other than boring basics, they have an understanding of petite proportions (you won't see patterns that are too large-scale for petites offered), and if you have the Luxe card they don't charge you for shipping. Which is very nice.... esp if they retract their petites from the stores and only offer them online again.
Maybe they should have a special card just for petite people? Give loyal petite shoppers free shipping AND returns.
From a competitive standpoint, Jcrew and Bloomie's don't carry petites in their stores, and then they ding you on *both* shipping *and* returns if you order and it doesn't fit. At least Bloomie's petite store brands are fairly consistent, but I find that Jcrew's sizing is all over the map.... so I rarely ever attempt to order from them because it's too costly an exercise. At least with BR if I order something I can be about 95% confident it's going to fit.
