Finding my personal style - YouLookFab Forum

I've been posting a lot since I join here. One of the reasons is that you guys are awesome! Another is it finally opens my eyes what I really want for my style. I went to another website where everybody has their own style or some that are really into fashion and I kept some pictures that I like and would like to adopt in my style.

I noticed that I like to wear flats, nice running shoes and other type of comfortable footwears. My ex-best friend used to force me into buying and wearing heels because she said I have the legs for it. Obviously, I don't feel right wearing them. Maybe once and awhile is okay but I don't really like wearing heels in school because my lifestyle consist of walking and running after the bus and classes. I feel like it's not me. There's a reason why I call her my ex-best friend too, she is the type of person that make you spend on things on everything. She helps me on some of my purchases and they become my favourites but it happends only when I take the time to think through it. I also noticed that she doesn't have confidence in herself because she keeps trying to prove to other people that she can do this and that. There's more but I'm going to stop right here.

I've been jotting down on different messages I want to project on my style and I hope you guys can help me find this. I've been posting pictures of myself lately because it helps me know more about my style.

I love:

- Artsy things : I really love interesting designs and I always have a love for artsy things. I also love to travel and sport things that come from other country. I bought jewelries from my Morocco trip last Summer and whenever I wear them, I feel fabulous. I want to show people that I am an open and fun person that love to discover new things.

- Casual: I like to have this relax feel in me. There's one or two girls in my college who dress fashionable. When I wear the type of clothes they wear, I feel superficiel.

- Conservative: I want to show one part at a time. For example,I show my legs but cover the upper part. I never find appealing showing too much skin. I love Conservative European style especially when I went to Morocco where Europe fashion is dominant, they can't wear certain things because men there are really disrespectful toward women who dress revealing. They wear fashionable and conservative clothes. I never went to Greek but I saw the movie : Sisterhood and the traveling pants. What Lena wear totally appeal to me and I can imagine this style on me.

- Tomboy: I love wearing the t-shirt my ex-bestfriend gave it to my brother who her gift turned out to be too small for him which fits perfectly. It's a guy type t-shirt and I like to add a feminin touch to it like a part of round earrings. I feel so comfortable wearing it and I feel like I am myself. Maybe a little tomboy feeling to it? My brother was a big influence on me when I was a little kid.

- Cute/appealing look: I love to look very sweet and homey most of the time but that is not really me, I am rebellious a little bit with my parents. I don't do drugs, smokes or anything that is so called cool at my ages because I was raised in a traditional family. My parents very much believe females are inferior than men and I don't want to represent that image. I like to look a little sweet and homey by opting for cute skirt and things but I want to make people remember that I am not the type who you can take advantage of so I guess I will opt for an accessory a little tomboyish when I wear something girly. I do go out and club once and awhile. I prefer to discover interesting things around my cities and I have a hard time associating myself with people who think of going out and have the time of their life 24/7. I am more of a calm person who goes crazy once in awhile. I love how she was able to turn a sexy tight into something conservative and I see myself doing that kind of thing. I am scared that I won't be able to pull that off. Will I be able to? By the way, her shoes are so cute and they look so comfortable.

Edgy: I probably have this look already but I want to be able to diversify it. http://www.chictopia.com/photo.....ters-shoes I love how she puts up this outfit and I would like to own a vest very much like her. She puts the right edge to it. I like it better when my accessories are edgy but a vest like her, it will be awesome. Any suggestions?

Other things I want to mention:

I love how she can dress it up.

I guess that's all.

I hope my style will translate into those kind of clothes but I guess I will have to concentrate on accessories first because I am very low on money right now and I want to slowly rebuild my wardrobe. I have a lot of clothes already and I hate buying a new wardrobe. My ex bestfriend thought I have a new wardrobe but I show her that I can adopt the look with the things I already have. They all fit me perfectly so I see no point in replacing them. One thing I really want is more dresses, skirts and shorts. I have way too many jeans and I don't like wearing the same combination.

As for my recent purchase, I recently bought a green scarf, it's a spring color type of green and it goes well with some of my basic t-shirts. What other scarfs will look good on me personally? Also, do you think I can adopt the pearl necklaces? I know I should get the bangles that you guys suggested me. Also the belts, I have to bring my cousin with me to choose then but do you guys have any suggestions on what kind of belt should I get?

Will gladly appreciate any feedbacks from you guys and I hope I didn't offend you guys. I sometimes say things without thinking twice only to find out that I said something that might sound obnoxious or insulting. Got that from my parents especially my dad. -.-"

This is a really insightful post and it sounds to me like you're developing a great sense of what you like AND what feels good to you to wear AND what your style conveys. These three things together are priceless bits of insight. I'm very impressed with how thoroughly you've thought through it all.

I love every look you linked to and I think you could wear every single one of them. The trickiest thing to pull off will be the flower tights, but it's totally worth a shot. And I love those shoes too!

It's funny because before seeing this thread, I had already looked at the pictures in your other threads and commented on some, and I actually had been thinking of you having the exact kind of style you are describing here.

And I agree with Brianna: I could see you wearing each and every one of the items you linked to.

So I think you're already 'further' than you think: you know what you love and want and you absolutely have the personality and the figure to carry it off.

I hope you'll be posting more pictures soon, it will be great to follow your 'experiments';-)

By the way: perhaps you could post a separate thread about the accessories (belts, pearls, scarfs, bracelets...), that way you'll get more responses.

Also: I LOVE the sound of the green scarf!!

GX - I agree, sounds like you already know yourself quite well. Personally, I think anyone can do pearls. You just have to "own them" - by that I mean get some that are your style that you feel totally awesome in! There's the traditional strand of pearl & then there are so so many other versions of it. Here are some examples:

You don't have to spend a lot of money. Just look for them every place you go.

This is a really inexpensive site (it's almost like a dollar store) that we found when we were in Maui. http://www.abcstores.com/browse.cfm/2,28.html Very inexpensive & ton's of pearl options. If you're thinking about ordering though - go to stores here & try on a stye first to make sure you like it & know exactly what you want.

I think pearls can definitely work with that tomboy/edgy look of yours. One of my favorite things is to mix tough with more feminine pieces. Check out Angie's recent blog photos where she wears her pearls with her biker jacket. Do you think that's something you could adapt to your style?

I am super new here having only recently discovered this fantastic blog, but I have to say that I think your description of what you like is really impressive. I think that I am going to have to sit down and write out what I love as well. Thanks for the great idea.
