Discounts for seniors

Looking at that list, I'm tempted to enroll DH and just start consolidating my clothes shopping into 2X/year or quarterly trips until I'm able to enroll

In the US, people over 62 can buy a nonexpiring senior pass for $80 that will get them and their guests into the following properties:

National Park Service
US Fish & Wildlife Service
Bureau of Land Management
Bureau of Reclamation
US Forest Service
US Army Corps of Engineers

My husband bought one in Hawaii a few years ago and we’ve used it numerous times.

Thanks, Carla! I just turned 55 and didn't realize some discounts begin this young....yes, young! I'm simultaneously excited and dismayed. LOL

AAA auto club offers discounts, don't know if there is a similar organization in Canada.

Shopper's is great. I notice in the link in Carla's post they state that you have to be 65 to get the senior discount. That is not the case. You just need an Optimium Card and ask for it. I started getting it at 55. They have never asked my age.

I always ask at hotels for a senior rate or CAA (AAA in the USA). Often a Yoga studio will give a senior discount even if it is not advertised. If they give a discount to students they usually will give one to a senior. We ask them.

Stylefan, I had the same experience at Shoppers. Age 55 was the starting age for the seniors discount. Unfortunately the neighbourhood Shoppers closed. Pharmasave bought the location and gives the same discount.

When we were in Scotland on holiday, the seniors' discount at most places started at age 60. But we missed out on it for the first days, plus all the stuff we paid for online in advance, because it's called "concession ". I just assumed it meant you had annual membership or something, until I asked.

Be sure to let people know that you are entitled to the senior discount. SAs are reluctant to ask in case they offend someone who is younger or someone who thinks that they look younger than they are. It does not ever hurt to ask.

Dunkin Donuts offers 5% senior discount. I find this especially useful when I am on the road.

JAileen- we got out senior discount pass for national parks before it went to $80 but it is still a bargain and a great pass.
Most places around here are for 65- few months to go

Efbgen, yes, my husband’s was only $10, four years ago. I think at $80, I think it’s still a bargain.

Discount movie tickets.

Some airlines have discounts. Usually not as good as buying ahead, but often a bit cheaper on last minute travel.
