I tried to take my dress boots in to have the calf tightened up.

There's a cobbler just down the street so I was looking forward to taking them in on my day off. It didn't go well at all.

First he couldn't understand why I even wanted them tightened (do they fall down??). Then he suggested I could start by "eating more". I'm sure he was trying to be funny but I left feeling a little irritated about his comment. Would he tell a woman who wanted boots stretched that she should "eat less"? No, of course not. Aggravating.

His next suggestion was, not even kidding, that I take a sweat sock and cut the toes out and wear it around my calf to make them fit better. Seriously?? He's a cobbler!

I can only guess judging by his shelves that he had enough work and just didn't want to mess with it. There's one or other two places in town I can try. That was the first time I ever walked into a shoe repair place. Not very encouraging.
