Disappointed with NYC travel capsule

So I finally finished putting together a capsule for my upcoming NYC trip. We are going this weekend (long weekend in Canada - thanksgiving, USA - Columbus day).
I must admit that I have been extremely busy past couple of weeks and have not put much effort into it. Sweet Suz, helped me figure out the footwear and bottom options and I built up from there.
I would like honest opinions on this trench coat. It is 5 years old and pre-YLF and the only one I own. Critiques and suggestions welcome!

YOur hair is TDF...Did your stylist do layers?...I love your capsule...The topper looks in 2,4,5,7 just seem like going to the city...Can't wait to hear how your trip goes...

First off, Mona your hair is soooo awesome! I wish I could get mine to look that amazingly wild and rock'n'roll -- I do my best but dang, lady, that is some gorgeous hair. *ahem!* Travel capsule looks good tome, what's disappointing about it? The second and third outfit are particularly nice. Did you try the white sweater over the gingham? It would also work with the second outfit (windowpane). You could also try the rust sweater with the gingham for more color interest, and of course the blue sweater would look smashing with the white/cognac in #3. No idea what the temps are like in NYC right now, but I am wondering if that short trench will be too short; I like my trenches a bit longer to give my rear and thighs a bit more wind protection.

re. the trench... there's room for perfection, I think. I'd take it and look for perfection while in NYC ... I say, tho, do you run cold? A short coat wouldn't be warm enough for me in Fall on the East Coast...

Of course, I wear down puffers in the summer...

If you have some money to spend, shopping in NYC is very fun. Try Century 21 downtown if you want a new trench, or a warm coat, or just about anything.

if that is the only coat that is suitable for nyc, by all means bring it and be prepared to leave it for the hotel cleaning staff as you will find something closer to your ideal.

crutcher, yes I just posted pics in my other thread. She did put in layers and I asked her to go shorter in the back so the angle is more dramatic.
Aida, you are the inspiration behind my new hair cut as you have the best wild, rock and roll hair and have the confidence to carry it. Every time, I look at your WIW's, the first thing I admire is your hair.
It is the trench that is bothering me here. I think the style is not current and does not do my body any favours.
rachy, IK, bj111 and shevia, thanks for your feedback. I run colder than normal so I don't even know what was I thinking when I bought this coat. But, looks like it is going to the donate pile and a new one is coming home with me from NYC.

Absolutely go shopping in NYC!! Time for a new coat! But this one looks cute with the outfits. Plus, I expect you will find some other goodies while you are there.

The window pane pants are fab on you and I think every one of these outfits will work well for your activities.

And your hair looks amazing!

Mona, Mona, Mona! Your hair looks amazingly gorgeous! I love it! What beautiful natural waves and rock-star-ishness. Do you feel like you need to change your wardrobe now? (I kinda did when I first went wavy.) I don't know if it would suit your personality or not, but I could totally see you in a black leather moto now, lol!

Your outfits look great, they can mix and match, and your trench is fine. It just looks like it might be tight in the shoulders. It sounds like a great excuse to shop for a new one. Have fun on your trip!

I think you are right to question that trenchcoat; in your place I would aim to leave it behind in New York, and come home in a new, more flattering one: black, a little longer, with a bit more gloss and flair. That would pull together all these outfits as they deserve, and look fabulous with that mane of yours--happy hunting!

Suz, I have ordered a few items online as I am not sure if I will have much time shopping there but I have to visit "The Rack" no matter what. And who knows, once I get there and see all these clothes around me, I will go crazy shopping .....(I have never been the crazy one ever in my life, LOL!)
clearyclaire, Thanks so much for your sweet comment. You made me blush. Like Angie says, hair should come first before clothes, right? My hair has always been wavy though. I just had it cut inverted bob. Black and I don't get along too well so moto jacket in any other colour would be great.
tulle, Yes gloss and flare is what I am after. I am hunting.

LOVE the hair! Love the clothes. The only thing I worry about is the windowpane pants getting dirty in the city. I always find I need more clothes in NYC than in other places because if it's not hot and sweaty, it's rainy and dirty or cold and slushy. YMMV, of course.

I would prefer a longer trench, and I think they are more current looking (although I always prefer longer coats regardless of what is in style). If you prefer a shorter coat, I think you should go for a looser, pea coat style, which seems to be more current as well.

I love the windowpane pants with cognac boots on you.

Mona, I just have to contradict you when you say that black and you don't get along! With your dramatic coloring you are one of those who actually look great in deep jewel tones, and that includes black (think onyx, jet, obsidian.) You may have had bad experiences with the tired, faded off-blacks that are everywhere in stores, but rich, dark, lustrous black fabrics like satin, velvet and some tech fabrics are out there, and for you they are worth the hunt--please give them a try!

Both of my trench coats (one cream, one black) are from Banana Republic, though it looks like they've only got black and tan right now. Might be worth a look!

I think your travel capsule looks good - the windowpane pants, jeans, and tops all look very interchangeable and stylish. The shorter trench is OK, but definitely look for a longer one in NYC. Century 21 is a good place to go, like Ironkurtin suggested. I bought a coat there quite a few years back and I'm still wearing it.

MsMary, that is good to know and NYC is predicted to have rain this weekend so I may swap windowpane pants out for something else.
Diana, longer trench coat is on my list.
tulle, there are a couple of reasons why I said that. First, I don't like black because it makes me depressed and second, now in my late 30's it makes my face look harsh. I don't mind wearing black on my lower body but around my face, it is not the most flattering colour. However, I have never given much thought to fabric so you might be onto something.
Aida, I looked and really like their tan one. I am not crazy about the frill at the bottom, though.
