Did you give many clothing gifts?

Viva's post about the cape coat for her DD made me think of this. Are there people for whom you can confidently buy clothing? Did you make many clothing purchases this year?

I did well choosing clothing for everyone this year, both in terms of style and fit. And it seems like I gave a lot of clothing gifts:

DD #1: 3 sweaters and a knit/silky top and JCrew coated denim toothpick jeans
DD #2: a sweater and a knit dress from Anthro
Son in law: sweater, knit pullover and plaid woven shirt
DH: JCrew white woven casual shirt plus Tommy Bahama lounge pants
Mom- elephant print flannel pajamas
Grandson: striped onesies, thermal pullover and socks (too cute!)
Sister: BR cream dotted sweater and toffee colored cords

For my DH, a BR Sweater and Gap pants, blus a scarf and hat
For my little bro (11) and 1st cousin (10) - Minecraft University Hoodies
For my Mom and MIL, pajamas

Only the gift for my DH is really a "fashion" gift, though

I gave dancewear to my 13-year-old, but she had it all in an online cart ready for me to buy!

I gave 2 sweaters to my sister-in-law (but from Nordstrom so returns/exchanges are simple with the tag sticker), a skirt to Mother-in-law and clothes for DH (because I buy all of them anyway) from J Crew and Lord & Taylor, and a sweater for my mom from LL Bean.

I did, actually. A Cole Haan winter coat for SO, Ugg slippers for both SO and DS, Haflinger slippers for SIL, ballet flats for my sister Mae, and various specific items for DS that he put on a wishlist, such as something he refers to merely as a "crewneck." When I pointed out to him that "crewneck" is just a style of neckline and could be used to describe a tee shirt, a sweater, a sweatshirt, etc., he looked at me blankly and said, "No, a crewneck."

Apparently when teenaged boys use that term at this moment, they're referring to a crewneck sweatshirt, as differentiated from a hoodie sweatshirt. Anyway, he got the one he wanted.

I gave my ten-year-old a black "modern art" dress with square white pockets and a pair of black-with-white-polka-dot leggings to go with it. She's wearing it now.

I gave my six-year-old a white long sleeve tee with an old-school skull-and-crossbones silkscreened on, because his sister has one and he likes it.

I gave my mom a Liz Claiborne black knit sweater with thin gold stripes that she tried on when I took her shopping to buy stuff for my dad. When she opened it, she had clearly forgotten about it and did not remember me buying it for her, although we were together at the time. One of the few bonuses of having a parent with dementia.

I bought DD seven down vests, returned one immediately, so she got to choose among six. She is keeping two. I also got her a cheap merino pullover and sweater comb. We aren't radically different in size but have very different builds. I thought one of the vests would flatter her more because it looked decent on me, but no.

I also got DH two chef jackets. He is the family cook, and the white one makes him look so professional! The gray one is just okay, but I wanted one that would go in a white load and another that would go in a colored load.

I give to my sister, because I know her size and her style - I got her a pretty fit and flare dress in velvet with moose (her favourite animal) on them. My sister gave me some very useful leather mitts!

I was very successful gifting clothes to the men in my life (hubby, sons). My daughter, not so much. But I am OK with that,,,she is developing her own style and knows what she likes/doesn't like.

My college age son was quite pleased with the items I purchased him. In another thread, I asked for advice on items/stores to shop in. He needed to up his style quotient on campus ;-), feeling like his clothes were not "dressed up" enough. He is an athlete, so I suspect he was feeling underdressed because of all the gear he ends up wearing. But he loved all the things he received, so home run for Mom!

I gave my mom an outfit - tan and cream striped sweater and a cream and tan patterned pair of jeans. Very YLF inspired actually - she thought the pattern mixing was a little out there at first but I think she liked it once she tried it on. I also got my SIL a scarf and a sweater - she's very particular about her style but I think I did well because she said she liked it.

I also got my DH a fleece coat but it was basically a replacement for one that was too big now. He's very particular about his clothes too but aft 10+ years I am starting to crack his code.

I always give clothing gifts to my hubby and two sons because otherwise they will go around naked as they would never go to shop for themselves
My hubby and youngest son got sweatpants and my oldest son got 2 sweaters - and all of them got Smartwool socks!
Oh, and my mom got winter boots!

Oh! I will tell you a story that didn't go so well.

So, I gave boy a beautiful (so I thought, as did all my male coworkers) Burberry tie for Christmas. It was a bit pricey, but it was special and I got it on sale. And it was the kind of tie you stare at and smile dreamily at - so I took the splurge.

He has no idea what Burberry is.
He has no idea why this tie is special.

"Well, it's special because you bought it for me, right?"

... oh, you are adorable, but ... Well, at least he keeps it in tissue paper in its box on the top shelf in his closet

The only one who got clothing was my DSister. Thinking that pink is said to be THE color this spring, I got her a soft pink cashmere sweater and floral scarf in shades is pink. She lives in the Chicago area, so it can be worn for months yet.

I gave my BF a cashmere sweater. And I gave my 7 and 9 year old nieces clothes, it's almost more fun to buy for them than for them to receive. I don't think the 9 year old is really into clothes, but the 7 year old always appreciates what I give her. She wore the pink Swiss dot dress I got her for two days straight. Next year I will ask if there are specific things they want.
