Hi. Well, two days ago one of the items arrived, and the rest today. So of course I scurried to try everything on and see how much of a hit or miss it was. I feel like I have done pretty well, despite deciding not to keep about two thirds of it.
The stuff that didn't work I feel strongly enough about that I didn't bother taking pics. (Apart from two items here I'm undecided on, but like a lot.) The Foxcroft blue gingham shirt had sleeves that were a funny length and looked awful in the bust (though technically didn't gap). Most of the knitted tops I vetoed are too clingy and really don't flatter my midsection, like the Vince Graphic Boxes top. There is one top with that issue I've decided to keep anyway, as a layering piece, the Halogen sleeveless drape neck top. I really need tops! Then there was a Caslon grey cashmere sweater that was casual-nice but I need things to be excellent, especially above a certain price point.
The Zella capris were too long for me...they didn't have petites, and it ended up too long. Or else visibly bunched up if I brought it up to the knee. That is a big disappointment, actually...I could really use a pair....
(By the way I have another order I just placed for tops, trousers and booties. I feel very decadent. I'll keep you posted.
So what seems to work for me? I really like the Eileen Fisher cap sleeve silk tee. Silk is a little labor-intensive, but I always do well with the cut of the EF clothing.
The Leith waterfall cardigan everyone's debating--I tried it on with some long sleeves after being advised. It seems to fit okay in the arms. I really like it quite a lot. I wonder if it's going to make me look even bustier with all the drapey fabric in that area. Please give me honest feedback.
The next somewhat questionable item was the Mephisto sneaker in silver. It really suits my lifestyle, they are super comfy and cute. I am balking a little at the price and slightly worried that I will wear down the soles on the outer edges of the heels (as I do with some shoes) and wondering if there's anything a shoe maker could do to protect them. But I am simply up in the air about them, maybe needing enabling? Or perhaps an honest "they're not all that."
And finally I am dodging the issue of the Brenna jacket...well, not really. I truly love this jacket. The weight, the construction, the cut, the luxurious feel of it. And I only have one other leather jacket (completely different weight, color, cut).
At size XL, it's snug. I can zip it shut, though. But I know the commandments on buying things that fit you now.
I don't want to buy this in plus size, assuming it's even available. I just think it'll be too bulky or something. I just want it as it is! Wearing it open. However, if I'm being unreasonable, I need to consider letting it go. Be honest. : )
pics: 1. Eileen Fisher cap sleeve tee
2-3. Leith waterfall cardigan
4. Mephisto Yael sneakers (with the burgundy NYDJ I bought in-store and that I am definitely keeping)
5-7 Brenna leather jacket. I would favor wearing it without the fur collar.
8. Halogen drape neck top
Thanks a million, all!
