Did I waste my money?

I found these two leather Coach bags at a church garage sale. I paid $12.50 each. One is a chocolate brown and the other a brownish red.

Sarah - The reddish one caught my eye at first and then I saw the brown one next to it.

Claudia - Oh good. I was so surprised to see real leather Coach bags sitting there. The tags had $20 each on it, but I asked if they would take $25 for both and they agreed!

They are definitely in terrific shape and are classic styles. I don't think they look dated, per se, but perhaps they aren't your style. Maybe think about ways to make them more you? I don't know...add a scarf, tie some chains on them, do something to them to give them more edge? I've never really messed with a bag before, but at that price it might be worth trying something like grommets and seeing what the result is.

I think they are both very classic bags. Great score - they look new! Rosie has a good point - your style seems so fun & eclectic so maybe you just need to find a way to liven them up a bit.

I think they are classic. They are simple with not alot of bells and whistles to show their age.
I'd take a good leather cleaner/conditioner to them and you'll fall in love with them. Good find.

Wow! What a find, I don't think they look dated at all. In the photo they look purple and pink!

The chocolate brown one has some slight fraying on the seams and a very faint pen mark on one side. Anybody know how I might get that out?
A couple of you mentioned that they might not be my style. What appeals to me is that they both look like old doctor bags. I liked the quirkiness of that.

Rosie and Shana - I would not ever consider adding any embellishments other than tying on a colorful scarf to an authentic designer bag. : )

AJ - I bet adding a colorful scarf ala the Hermes bag in the pic below may make a big difference.

You are right - the do have the air of a classic Doctor bag, a style I totally love! Frankly, I think they would both be worth it (without embellishment) at 2-3 times the price!

I was kinda looking forward to seeing your name in rhinestones....

What a great find! For the ink you might try a little cheap hairspray on a soft cloth and rub the stain with it. It may be difficult if it's soaked into the leather, but nothing takes out ink like hairspray

Joy - Hairspray? Really? I'll try a test on the bottom of the bag to see if the hairspray discolors it. Thanks for the tip!

Aj i can vouch for the hairspray. I got biro on my white pleather bag EEEck I posted here and i think it was Maya who suggested hairspray for it, like you i thought "yeah right" but i squirted a bit on a tissue and it rubbed the mark right off x

Disclaimer: I don't have a good eye for bags. With that said, they look a little dowdy for your style. But I know you can bring AJ magic to them! Bedazzling wouldn't be the worst thing that happened to them, maybe some nice studs across the top? If nothing else you can probably easily resell them!

I do not have a classic style at all and I love these bags. If you take a bedazzler to them, I will have heart failure. Please don't do that...

Try putting them with some of your outfits, and if you still feel ambivalent after a month or so, maybe you could sell them on ebay. I bet you'd get a lot more than what you paid for them.

What a bargain! I'm a big fan of tying a scarf onto a handbag to perk it up. You can also do things like hook a bracelet around one of the handles to give it some extra oomph. I think you got a great deal.
