Did I miss the "Cardigans are out" memo?

Went out shopping today and I was so bummed out; one of the stores had reduced the plus section to three little rounders, and the other one, no plus sizes whatsoever, and the top I wanted to try on looked just atrocious on me... Back to the drawing board, I guess. But while I was out, I was trying to find some cute, basic cardigans in fun spring colors. I was shocked that I was unable to find anything! The ones I did find were so, I'm sorry, old-lady in their cut and print that I could not imagine them working for me at all. Very "Ladies-who-lunch-at-the-country-club" and not "fun twentysomething new mom." Know what I mean?

So, are cardigans "out?" Or am I just not looking in the right places? I found a few "shrunken" cardigans, but for a plus-size gal with a waist, they just look like honey I shrunk the cardigan. Or like I'm wearing my eight month old's jacket, ha. Advice? Favorite shops?

I don't think cardigans could go "out". Search somewhere else Rabbit, may be you would find some nice ones.

I just checked out Old Navy online plus sizes - there are about 20 cardis from basic colors to short sleeve to textured. You may have to order and then do some returning if you can't find things in your local area. XXL at Old Navy runs pretty large - I am a 14/16 in tops and can do a L or XL there.

I was going to mention old navy as well. I was there a few days ago and they had a table full of the most cheerful bright cotton cardigans.

Definitely not out! I have a couple of Old Navy cardigans, the fabric is light but that is nice for spring and they come in practically every colour.

I love cardis and they must NEVER go out of style or my wardrobe will be even smaller than it is! I got my two newest cardis at BR. Both are vneck which I infinitely prefer over jewel or crewneck and one is black and the other is canary yellow! I love them both.

Oh yes, good point, Meredith. V-neck cardis seem to be easier to layer these days! Target has a whole slew of them, but they're mostly crewneck. Some of my Target cardis have worn like iron -- some pilled immediately. Also, Talbots is doing fresher designs and better prices these days and carries a huge range of sizes. Good luck!

I don't think they're *out*, but lately I'm feeling more love for jackets/blazers.

You should post some pictures in the dressing room with the cropped cardis on. They might look just fine but your eye needs to adjust to the proportions?

I don't think cardigans will ever be out. Maybe you were just at the wrong store? O.o Maybe they wear gearing up for summer? I think i still see summer cardis out at that time though..

I checked out Old Navy; they had two or three basic cardigan styles, and one was very cropped/shrunken. I have my postpartum squish in the front and they hit me right at the widest part of it, no bueno. The other style was cute but none of the colors suited me, I thought. I could be wrong about that, though. I also checked out Target (iffy, at best) and Macy's, which was all over the place. I think I just get discouraged really easily. You know how it is.

I also tried on a few jackets/blazers but I had a hard time finding something that had enough of a waist curve or princess seam to it. I do have a waist and when I wear the very boxy, boyfriend style jackets I feel about a mile wide.

My ideal cardigan is going to be in the pantone color of the year - Tangerine tango. Almost a coral color. That's my holy grail!

I feel like I've been seeing fewer cardigans in stores right now because stores are introducing their spring/summer lines. But I do still see them. Banana Republic and J. Crew have cardis year round, and I generally like the color selections. Nordstrom too. Have you looked at Ann Taylor? They have 40% off all online purchases right now.

Sorry your shopping trip was not what you wanted. Macy's can be hard with all the various departments it's hard to know where to start and it's hit and miss by location.

Have you tried on an XXL from Gap for length and shoulder fit? They have tangerine/coral right now - also I have no idea of your budget. But here's a link:

The good thing about some of the big retailers is buying online, you can often return to store so it's easier to exchange.

Update! I just got back from Nordstrom Rack and I found two cardigans in coral and kind of a mushroom brown, as well as a fun red drape-neck tank and a little chiffon cherry-print shirt. I will post pics to see what you all think about the combinations. Thanks for the ideas!

I'm not doing without my cardigans! That's like saying that jackets and coats are going out of style. How stupid is that?
