DH doesn't like peach dress

The one that I will wear if it is hot on the wedding day, which is looking more likely than not now. I have 2 DVF wrap dresses, just in case, for cooler weather. He dislikes one of those too, but likes the other one. He only just told me he doesn't like the peach one after watching me buying & returning, shopping like crazy for shoes, bags & necklaces to go with it. I leave for England on Saturday. I'm a bit ticked off & feel like I should just wear it anyway now.

Here are the probable winner of shoes & bag for this dress. I will post pics of entire outfit in a bit.

It is the same colour as my skin. It isn't too intimate but too bland. No contrast except my hair. That is why I bought gold accessories to brighten it but he still hates it. Said last night that he can't believe I spent all this time looking for shoes instead of a new dress. I didn't know he hated the dress & I already owned the dress. I also thought it was going to be cooler so I bought the DVF coral & white one & focused on that, which was also hard to find shoes for, being an outdoor wedding so I bought a 3rd dress, another DVF, which he also dislikes.

If it were me I'd probably just wear it since he didn't speak up earlier. Not long after we married my DH told me he didn't like my dress on the way to a wedding. He got a stern lecture on when it was and wasn't appropriate to share his opinion.

Too bad, so sad! You look fab and really it's going to be super stressful to start all over now. Lol, I probably would have said he should have kept quiet about it at this point. Sheesh, men!

I would totally wear it. I think it looks fab and I LOVE the metallic accessories! Those shoes should be perfect on the grass!

Do you like it? Because if you do and it stresses you out too much now to look for something else I would just wear it anyway. Just tell him that it is too bad but too late for anything else and you would appreciate his valuable opinion in a more tamely fashion next time

i think you look great in the dress,sorry ive missed the story of you coming to England for the wedding but we are having a heatwave here so the dress is perfect.btw my dh never comments on my clothes I wish he would occasionally!

Well, fooey. Sorry to hear your DH feels so strongly and has weighed in at the last minute <smh>. That dress looks great on you. Understated colorwise, but the draping and fit are awesome -- and that's key to wearing minimalistic pieces.

Now, do you feel fab in that dress? If so, I think you should wear it!

How upset would you be he doesn't like the dress versus how hard would it be to start over on finding a dress?

Not a marriage counselor, but sometimes just murmuring, oh, I'm so sorry, I'm afraid this will do for now since we're short on time, and another time I'll have one you'll like better.....
Then have yourself a great time looking fabuloso in your outfit.

I think you look lovely in the dress. I would go ahead and wear it. Men can be funny - could be that in a week he will like it. I would not re-shop at this point.

I thought I would either wear it or buy a very expensive new outfit that I wouldn't normally feel comfortable at that price & tell him I had no time to find anything else lol. Any suggestions? Trouble is, it is too late. Even the expensive high end Spring/Summer 2013 stuff is sold out. I would love to wear this, which would be still expensive on sale, the top is on sale at MK but the skirt isn't on the website so probably sold out. Maybe I could head over to the store in BH tomorrow & see.

This is affordable but maybe too young for me?

Elle, so sorry DH has thrown a wrench into the works. The dress is gorgeous on you, and with the accessories you've chosen will be even more so.

If you won't feel happy in it, then that's a different matter. But it looks great.

Glory makes a good point. Sometimes my DH says he doesn't care for something, only to realize that it does look good later on.

I'd probably have a chat with him (later) about when it is fair to share his thoughts and when it is not okay. I have had that chat with my husband.

I have also had another chat with him that goes: Thank you for your opinion. Did I ask for your opinion just now? No? Then I would appreciate it if you would let this subject drop. I need your support as I venture into this territory (whatever the event is). And if you criticize my outfit when it is too late to do anything about it, I feel unsupported.

This is how it goes down in my world:

Bf thinks I'm dressed weird.
I am, in fact, dressed weird.
He has to go out with me dressed weird.
I get a ton of compliments.
We laugh.

Zap I love the peach dress as a dress. I think it looks good on my body but I agree with DH about the colour looking bland & washed out against my skin. I bought the dress in Australia & couldn't return it so by the time I realized this I was back in the US & decided I would just wear a bright coloured shoe & bag. I didn't find bright ones I like, though I have a new coral shoe, just arrived today, I can post pics of, but I did find gold, which I think helps.

Okay - crazy thought -- what about dyeing the dress?

Maybe not right now. Sounds like a tricky stress-making job, potentially. But the dress shape is lovely on you. If you don't care for the colour - presto-chango!

Hmmm, I don't know the whole story so I'm not going to tell you what to do, but here is what happens here:
I put dress on. DH says "you're wearing THAT?"
I'm like "don't you like it?"
DH says "it's kind of (insert word here, like fancy, sheer, dark, etc)."
I say "Ok, it's a good thing you don't have to wear it then."

Well talk about a frustrating and stressful situation! I really like Suz's suggestion about "the talk" for future situations but of course, that doesn't help you dress for the upcoming wedding.

You look positively stunning in the dress and if I recall, Angie felt quite keen on it as well. Would you feel comfortable wearing it anyway knowing how DH feels?

I like this dress! I showed the outfit to my husband (he is English) and he says he likes it too and would be good for a wedding there. Just in case you needed a second (English) dude's opinion.

Men are annoying! My DH will nix a lot of things I try, or just be so lukewarm about it it spoils my enjoyment. But as for him...I have been extremely verbal on hating several things he wears and he just laughs and wears them anyway! I have told him I'm going to be like that and he says "fine" but I just can't.

Others have given you great advice, I just wanted to say you are not alone!
