designmatchbox?

Hi Greg,

something weird has been happening this afternoon, when I try to access YLF I get to a "designmatchbox" front page with a login / pass word request.

After several attempts, I finally got access to the site, but when I tried to submit a post on the forum, I got back to the "designmatchbox" page and the thread did not appear.

The site lay-out is weird, too - the forum lay-out is OK (I don't know how to link to a screenshot here to show you).

I got this too. I can tell I'm signed in, and I can see that the Forum is being updated because I can see the time stamp on the messages. I'm on a Mac with OSX using Safari Version 7.1.7 (9537.85.16.12). I'm in the US using a wifi network that I commonly use.

Thanks Isabel and Annabelle. We have indeed been experiencing issues with the site. In the meantime, Greg has found the cause of the problem and has fixed the issue, but the change might take a while to propagate though - up to 12 hours.

My apologies. This was due to something I did late last night. It is fixed now, but as Inge says, it might take a while before the site returns to normal for everyone.

Thanks for following the thread, Inge.
Layout is not back to normal, but the problem started before the "matching box" stuff.
Might be a problem with my browser. Curiously the forum layout is normal. Beyond my understanding.
Oh well, I can still read text and see pictures, even if text and pictures are not prettily displayed.

Skylurker, can you tell me which page has the layout problem? Can you describe what is wrong with the layout?

Also, which browser you are using?

I use Google Chrome (with adblock).

All the blog pages have the layout problem.

It's like the text is typed in word without formatting and pictures are pasted all over the place.

Apparently I'm the only one getting this, so don't bother trying to fix it if it's too much trouble.

ETA : tried with Internet Explorer, layout's normal with IE.

I'm sure if it is affecting you then it is affecting other people too.

Would it be possible to take a photo of the screen?

Also, could you turn off adblock temporarily and see whether the problem is still there?

I didn't do anything, adblock's on as usual.

I have a sceenshot saved of the weird layout if you're interested, but I couldn't take a picture (don't own a camera nor smartphone).

Wow.

But I think I know what happened here.

The browser tries to "cache" files that don't change often so it doesn't have to reload them every time. But every once in a while one of those files isn't downloaded properly and the version it stores away is corrupted. After a while it replaces the corrupted one with a fresh one and all is well again.

In this case I think it was keeping a corrupted version of the stylesheet so nothing was styled correctly. Please let me know if this happens again.
