Hi,
Im a designer for a work-wear brand in Norway and i am working on a design for a Inclusive pant.
What i mean by inclusive is that i want to make a pant for women in all shapes/sizes etc..
Not only pregnant women but all body types.
We see a big increase of women in the work wear industry and they need good equipment that looks nice.

And now here is my questions:

1. Is it comfortable to wear a high waist stretchy pant if you have a bigger waistline? Is this good or bad?

Im thinking a high waist pant with stretch woven fabric in the sides and a rib in front and back.

2. Would you by a pant if it say "Inclusive pant" - What is your first thoughts that comes into your head?

I relay hope many of you can help me to design the perfect pant for women!

Have had the same idea with regard to tights, R.

While I love the concept of an "inclusive pant", I think the name needs work. Something snappier (think of Sara Blakeley with "Spanx") would be great, and I'd be more inclined to describe them as "pants for everyone." It's just simpler, more direct.

Pants that would grow a bit on the waist are indeed helpful.
Inclusive is a good word for me. Unisex, not so much, as the sizing is too wonky. Measurements available for the internet shopping problems.
Suggest side cinches on the waist, like old fashioned work pants. Small buckles with a strip of cloth that can pull in or let out. Covers asymmetry, also.
Too much stretchy looks a bit cheap as it often stands in for decent tailoring. So cloth with some structure is also appreciated. It covers any bumps. And you can put large pockets in it.
Fabric that does not need dry cleaning. Who needs another errand?
And, in a perfect world, adjustable hem length.

I like Olive's idea of side cinches - I've also seen trousers with flat waistbands in the front & back but with elasticated sides, which could be a good compromise between formality & comfort?

If I saw the term 'inclusive pants' though, I'd only be convinced if I could see them being modelled on many different body types (not just shapes, but varying heights & sizes too). I'm a short pear shape with a defined waist but some lower belly pooch, so I actually prefer a high waist - but I think providing full measurements (including the back & front rise for each size) would help people decide whether the high-rise is right for them.

I also agree with Zaeobi, about showing the pant on many different body types.
We already have a design feature giving all pant 5 cm extra length if needed.

I do like a high waist stretchy pant, but I still like a flat waist band. If the it’s a gathered stretchy waist, that creates pouf in the tummy area… something I’d say most of us would rather do without…

I think of unisex when I see "inclusive" with a garment.

Is there a reason you are putting these waist gussets into the pants? Are you making only one size? Why not grade the pattern and actually make a large size range?

I remember Diana Rigg (Mrs. Peel of the Avengers series) being interviewed long ago and she showed how her pants had those little side buckle cinches so they always fit. Wonderful for monthly bloating.

I don't find "inclusive" appealing. Sounds like adaptive clothing for people with health challenges. What's wrong with Pants That Work.

HI, Jenava, i want to add gussets for comfort, and we will have many sizes. tall and small.

But we also want to make sure we dont get that cutting waistband feeling into our stomach. So that is why i want to add soft stretch on some parts of the upper waist area.

Definitely on the stretch waist, but definitely not on anything that achieves that by elastics that pinch if they are too tight or bunch up when they aren't stretched out. Anything that gathers is unflattering to just about every body. I prefer wide flat waistbands that stretch by virtue of the material.

I don't think I'd be at all drawn to something marketed as "inclusive pants". It just sounds too weird. If you have to spend much time explaining what it means, it's going to fail. Your message sounds like you want an image of kindness, acceptance, comfort, support, so I can see where inclusive came from, there's just going to be a long explanation needed to define it and how many words do you want to put in those ads?

Strangely (because the two terms are not at all synonymous), I am with Vildy in that my first thought upon hearing "inclusive" was "adaptive" for people who have difficulty with traditional fastenings, etc. The term inclusive wouldn't necessarily be appealing to me, as it tends to mean unisex with many US marketed items, and sizing tends to be wonky with that. I agree about coming up with something memorable, and I like Vildy's idea of "Pants that Work."

I actually love Vildy's suggestion, Pants That Work. That would draw me in to take a closer look. I like Olive's idea of side cinches, and definitely flat front and back, as Zaeobi suggested, with cinched or elasticated sides. Pants with some structure for durability's sake, as well as good looks. Allows sturdier pockets as well.

First of all I need to understand what a work wear brand actually means?
Just for anyone who does any sort of work or more of a trades person?
In Australia and New Zealand we actually have a brand called Tradies (mostly underwear I think? Maybe shorts too) that seems popular for that. And crosses over to normal wear.

I love wide and comfy pants.

Recently, I got pants from H&M.
Banding is a little bit wide and not tight design.
But I am satisfied with it.

Flowy pants will be good for any body type, I guess.
