I am still in sunny Arizona staying at my aunt's house, but my conference of dresses was a rousing success! I was comfortable, both for the weather and for days of meetings, and I was properly attired the whole time -- not too dressy, but not too casual. I was especially delighted they all worked out, because I essentially got a preview of how easy it is going to be to dress for work this summer (it's not this hot yet in Chicago, but we'll get there!).

Saturday, flight then afternoon lounging with client: I flew in rolled-up jeans and a sweater, then changed to tan shorts. The client was in track pants. Ha!

Tuesday day: BR red-orange dress with three-strand coral-and-gold necklace. I think the boldness of the necklace de-emphasized the broadness of the ruffled shoulders well.

Wednesday: fuschia cotton sundress and thin white cardigan. It was so cold in the conference rooms; I regretted not bringing ONE long-sleeved sweater. Ah well!

I've been at my aunts since then so no full-length mirror and no photos, but it's been more new fun cotton tops and shorts. I did take one today of the two of us that I'm sending to my mom:

So far, it's been a pretty great trip. And I only have two extra unworn things in my bag. Not bad!

I was very pleased the orange worked out; the shoulder ruffles are rather dominating on the outfit, so it was tricky finding the right necklace to balance them out. I've had that cheap thing for years and almost gave it away recently because I've never been able to match it well with anything. Good thing I kept it!

TylerAnne, my favorite was Sunday, too; I've worn all the other dresses and loved them, but it hadn't been warm enough yet for the navy dress. I was worried about the length -- it's definitely a casual dress, as it's much too short for work -- but the leggings saved it for dinner.

I love all the looks and I love how you incorporated the bronze sandals into so many of them. The hardest part of packing for me is deciding what shoes to bring. I usually pack my whole closet! Those sandals rock, btw.

I especially like how you transformed your outfit from day to night on Sunday. Genius!!!!

Fabulous. I think my favorite is Sunday with Tuesdays outfits (both of them) tied for second. The coral is a great color on you. I love that you basically had a whole week of dresses.

When I go to conferences, I always take a wrap. It does triple duty. I can use it as a blanket on the plane, just wrap it around my neck for the look if the rooms aren't too cold, and use it for a wrap when they crank the ac up to keep everyone awake. I highly recommend it. Come to think of it, I guess I take a wrap whenever I travel because I can find ways to use it in so many situations.

I totally agree about the necklace too - I was a little skeptical about that BR dress but the necklace is the perfect accompaniment.

Whooo, a KILLER from Angie! I am grinning from ear to ear. Yes, I am completely addicted to dresses right now, and thinking I probably need a few more for work; I loved all of these but having worn them now I realize several are just a tad too short for the office, alas. Luckily, a whole new batch are appearing in the stores!

Alecia, I wish I had thought of getting a wrap for the trip! I will keep an eye out for one now because you are right, their versatility and warmth will be great for trips like this. Thank you for the idea!

Shana and Debora, the sandals are BOC and I got them at Famous Footwear, of all places! To be honest, I could have taken just those and my flip-flops for the pool, and been fine. But I couldn't bear the idea of nine day with no heels LOL so I brought the wedges for the party. Then I was worried since the sandals were new if they caused any pain I wouldn't have an alternate, so I brought the black beaded ones. This was a first for me, since I usually bring about 6 pairs of shoes, even in the winter! Oy.

Shana, thanks for the thumbs-up about the orange dress. I remembered that we both had the same hesitation about the shoulders so I'm delighted the necklace worked for you too.

Oh, Angie's wonderful comments (thank you, m'dear, I am blushing very hard!) prompted me to share this story from the trip:

I attended this conference last year as well, and hit it off with a group of people who work for the vendor doing support. They were mostly all here this year again, and we all hung out again. Toward the end of the party on the last night, one of the guys -- they're all young and dorky/sweet, like IT support guys are -- came up to me and said, "Okay, I've had enough to drink that I can kind of cross a line and say something I've wanted to for days. You look FANTASTIC!"

I laughed and joked that I had been wondering if anyone had noticed. (I really didn't expect them to since I only see them once a year.) He said, "Oh, no, we ALL noticed right away, but we were afraid to say anything; you're the client, we're not supposed to be that forward! But the first day, you walked past me and I was kind of -- " then he made a motion like he was checking me out -- "and then I realized, wow that's Kristen! Daaaaaaaang."

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. That made my whole trip.

Kristen, you look beautiful all week! (What an awesome compliment from your colleagues, too.) As usual, very hard to pick a favorite, but I love the dress with leggings and the orange BR dress especially.

Since I saw it on you, I keep craving that Banana Republic dress since it is currently on sale, but I'm cautious about ordering something I can't try on (it isn't available at my local stores) since I'm in between a M and L at Banana Republic. Do you mind me asking what size you have, and whether you'd recommend sizing up or down in this particular dress?

Oooh, Kari, how much is the BR dress going for? I got it on sale for $69 so if it's less, you should scoop it up!

Mine is large, and I too wear between a medium and a large at BR. (I am a medium and a 10 at ATL, for reference.) I like the large for this dress because it is a bit clingy, and the medium would show off every lump on me in bas-relief! LOL. As it is, I do wear a slip with the large to smooth things out even more; I picked a cute white one with a straight front, which is what is peeking out of the front vee. It looks like a silky cami, which saves me an extra layer!

Kristen, thanks for the extra info on the dress! Currently it's on sale for $59, $10 off of your price. I was going to use a BR discount and rewards coupon concurrently to bring the price down, but thinking again, I think I'd rather not add another lump-and-line-showing dress into my closet right now, and I really don't *need* the dress. But I am still terribly tempted every time I see how great it looks on you.
