Descriptions needed for potential Nordstrom purchases

It made my day when I learned that Nordstrom now delivers to Canada, and Angie's notice of a mid-season sale just about firmed up my resolve to make my first few purchases. Unfortunately their online descriptions aren't particularly detailed, and so I'm turning to you ladies for some feedback on a couple of items:

1. I nearly died of excitement when I learned that David Kahn does make jeans in my size (only available at Nordstrom, of course). Unfortunately judging from the description, I have the impression these don't meat the YLF smart casual standards. True or false: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....4&P=1

2. I've been seeing so much about sweetp ea tops here that I've decided it's time to try one... Are they available in Canada? Of course not! Enter Nordstrom, with a great selection of styles in my size. I'm looking for one with an attractive pattern in a style that works for my busty self. Here's a sweetheart neck style (what is that neckline, exactly? I just know it works for hourglass), in two patterns. Not sure what they mean by black multi and teal multi, but would appreciate descriptions and recommendations from you guys:

1. The David Kahns are lighter right on the thighs and whiskered around the crotch, so they're not a true dark wash. Honestly, I would be surprised if that wash would be flattering; I've been your size, very recently in fact, and I know that faded look right on the thighs was never my best.

2. A sweetheart neckline is one that starts off wide at the corners but then dips down in the middle, so the chest area that is visible resembles the shape of a heart (thus, sweet"heart"). These particular tops are kind of square on the corners. The multi refers to the colorful pattern of the top; they have a base color (teal, black, blue, etc), and then the pattern is colored with all kinds of complementary colors as well.

The black multi you linked is small and plentiful flowers, leaves, and ornate curlicues, in dusty rose, blue, purple and mustard over the black base. Very pretty.

The teal multi is larger paisley patterns, mostly different shades of blue with a dusty fuschia (pink-red) being the main contrast color against the teal and blues. Paisley is a strange pattern; you either are a fan or you aren't. I'm not, so my opinion of this one is biased.

While I was clicking around your links (one was a repeat of the jeans, but it was easy to spot the shirt you were talking about), I also saw another one you might like. It has a v-neckline, and is a blackbase with dusty blue and red cabbage roses, and the sleeves and bottom have an extra layer of black.

3. The white jeans have those porkchop-shaped outside pockets right on the hips, which is usually not flattering. My capris have those, and I have to make sure my top covers them. Be careful.

Kristen, you're a natural at this! I wish stores would hire you to write descriptions in their catalogues! I'm definitely going to give the DK's a miss. I figured I'd have to based on the description, but wanted to make sure. Hopefully they'll restock their dark washes soon. And I appreciate the warning on the CK pockets. I don't like pockets on the hips either, so I'll likely have to skip that too. The sweet pea top, however, sounds promising. Thanks for unearthing that third link. I'd welcome all feedback on that, too.

You're welcome! Glad it could help; Sweet Pea tops are hard to visualize and describe because there is so much going on, but they are pretty much all very pretty and flattering. I have a tough time choosing when I am shopping for them.

A good place for you to check out for jeans might be Gap's Long and Lean style. I LOVE them when I was 16-18 because they are so darned flattering! Unfortunately, their dark wash appears to be out of stock, but I check in on the site every now and again to see if they're back; I want to order a pair in my new size too!

I like Gap jeans a lot, but unfortunately the 16-18 sizes are only available online and therefore can't be delivered to Canada! Too annoying.

Michelle, I am not sure if anyone has seen these jeans in person (I haven't since I don't shop premium jeans yet) but wondered if this pair of DK's would be better for you. To my eye it just looks like a very slight fade especially when I zoom in, and the contrast between the fading/whiskering looks much more subtle than on the pair you tagged. http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....4&P=1

Kristen already gave you stellar descriptions for the other items. I just want to add that the sweet pea tops look very cute; I'm personally partial to the Black Multi print (the graphic floral) for your coloring, but I don't mind paisley. Hope that they work out for you!

Michelle, DK’s in general are the way to go for your luscious bod. I’ll put my head on a block that you will not be disappointed. I have several clients in them and they LOVE this brand. I love it for them too. I say go for the blue jeans Kari has linked to asap. As for the white jeans you’ve linked to, give them a miss – not too fond of those front patch pockets. You’re after a basic 5 pocket style in white jeans. Hopefully DK will bring them out soon.

Cute sweet pea top. Will look great layered under a jacket or cardigan. Those colours will look so pretty on you. Go for it!
