Denim vests - age appropriate?

Hello ladies. I have been hunting for a denim vest. I purchased 4 and returned 3 and am left with this one from american eagle. I will post a K/R asap. My question - is 54 too old for a denim vest like this? My kids sure think so...lol. I think I have lamented about the responses from them several times - pretty much everything I try elicits an eye roll.

I think age should not be a barrier to rocking a denim vest, but I would probably style so that the vest is the only piece rocking, other than maybe funky footwear. That is, I would keep the other pieces classic and clean, like white tee, neutral croppped pants and a scarf or necklace.
But I am no expert!
The vest you chose has a nice shape.

I really don't see what why a denim vest would be inappropriate at any age. I would like to see it on, though, so we can get a look at it styled.

I'm 54, too, and I love a nice denim vest! I vote a big thumbs up!

ETA: If your kids are teens, eye-rolling is their job. Pay them no mind!

Your kids don't get a vote! LOL I own that exact vest and plan to rock it this summer. I would love to see it styled on your. I bet you will look great.

I love wearing mine with a summer dress or a tee to edge up my summer outfits a bit. I don't think age is a consideration!

I have a faded Hinge vest very similar to that one that I wear multiple times a week in the summer and I'm 66. Wear and enjoy and don't listen to them. They can get over it. My son chuckles when he sees me in Converse shoes. I think he's secretly pleased.

Glory, I think our kids aren't always that comfortable with us trying new things. Mom is mom, and it's easier when she stays the same. Doesn't mean you should. I'm 56, and a denim vest will be on my shopping list once I have my essentials. I think it'll be perfect in summer for those too thin and bare tops.

Glory! You wrote the post that I was planning to write, but hadn't got to it yet! I'm 54! I just bought a denim vest from Gap. My daughter is supportive, with "strict guidelines". So as it hangs in my closet waiting for warmer weather I'm thinking of taking it back. Your post and everyone's comments have changed my mind...especially Joy's pic....Wow! Looking forward to some styling pics. I'll try to post too...next stop...Converse!

I've told this story before but I'm not over it yet... My adult daughter and I were talking about my recent fashion evolution and I said firmly, "I am NOT having a midlife crisis."

And she said, "No, you're not. But you're having a midlife SOMETHING."

I will drink to that! Hooray for midlife somethings!

I like Joy's "secretly pleased" framing. Surely that's what all of our kids are.

I admit to a poison eye with denim shirts and vests. Not sure it's an age thing, but for me, looser and longer seems more chic . . . FWIW.

Rather than ask is the denim vest age appropropriate, ask instead, how do you feel when you wear it?...I love mine for the extra vibe it adds to my outfits...I love Joy's look and can't wait to see other ways to style the vest......I feel pulled together and HOT when I wear mine...

Wear it and smile Glory! I'm on the lookout for a white denim or white moto vest so I will be in the same boat. And don't worry about the eyerolling - I think it's part of a child's job description, to roll their eyes at us - lol!

I think when you are over 50 (as am I) you have been on the planet long enough to actually have owned and worn out a few denim jackets, recycled into a vest...(to save the planet you know...)

Your kids are not old enough to wear a faded denim vest, they haven't earned it...Roll your eyes at them! LOL
