Does anyone have any good ideas about where to find a stylish, dark wash, knee length denim skirt? I keep finding either minis, or really long and dowdy, or light washes that are too casual. I'd like something really versatile to wear with everything from sandals to boots. Suggestions? This would be such a great foundation item.

i really like the two dani suggested from j crew. well actually i like all of them, but something more fitted would look nice with boots or sandals. my vote is for #3, only b/c the second one is maybe a bit too corporate for the styles you're suggesting.

Those are nice. I think I would be open to a pencil or an a-line -- I might get both! I wonder how the lower waist on the second J Crew would flatter...

I have the same problem Kyle, and I'm 'only' 5'8. I like my skirts to fall on the knee or just below, but each time I see a picture and think 'oh this might work, it definitely falls to the model's knees and she must be taller than me', the skirt then usually is 23 to 25 inches (depending on the cut, 25 inches works for me). Are models shrinking or something?

Kyle, I'm looking for the same thing, but especially a pencil skirt since that's best for my body type. Almost all are too short or have a dropped waist like the Nordstroms one above in Inge's post. Should one hold out for a regular waist if you want to define the waist and create the look of curved hips or will this low waist style work?

I often have low waisted skirts adjusted to fit my natural waist. I do not like them moving around when I walk. But you have to watch the length. This alteration takes away a bit of length so be sure to check.

Try the Nordies skirt. It's beautiful and I have seen it firsthand.

Kyle, I just thought of something-- if you are tall that skirt might be too short on you. I'm 5'3" and the regular hits middle of my knees.

I love a good denim skirt and have several, including the Boden one. The Boden one is too short for me (18" in a small size). My favorite is not from this season. FYI...the Boden comes in a tall length (20") as well as a shorter length (18").

And here I was just griping to myself about my difficulty finding denim skirts in styles other than the usual 5-pocket, zip fly "jeans" skirt. I am very impressed. Patience, since you said you had the J. Crew pencil skirt, if you see this post, could you let me know how it runs size-wise, please? Can I believe the size chart on this one?

Monica, are you familiar with what jcrew size you wear? If so then I'd say the skirt is consistent. If not, then I'd say jcrew bottoms run big on me in general so you might want to try your normal size and one size down.

I agree that Crew is running large. I remember when everything I tried on there was small, but I just received a new skirt today...with that in mind I ordered a 10 to be safe...and it is at least a size too big.
