Denim on Denim

I know this has been discussed from time to time, but I am wondering what is trending now. Do we mix denim. Most all of us have denim jeans and denim toppers. Do you wear them together of, if you wear denim jeans, nothing else denim? All comments and/or suggestions appreciated.

I don’t see why not.

I prefer not to have a perfectly matching set in exactly the same wash— varying shades of the same color appeal to me more—but for other people that could work well.

I think it may actually be trendy now to wear the same wash but I prefer not to.

Star, Thanks. Oh, I agree with you. No, if I do start wearing two different items in denim they will not be matching. I'm not ready for that, LOL.

Fash, you and I are on same track. As expressed in reply to Star, I CAN't, WILL NOT, at this point wear matching denim! Never say never. For me, and considering age, it seems to be trying to hard!
I am going to try and wear not only different wash denim, but also different colors. For instance, yellow or coral denim jacket with dark wash jeans. Umm, just don't know. We will see. Maybe in the early spring.

Now that you mention colors other than blue, this is probably as matchy as I get, with the background to the leopard spots matching the pants.

I have to think about matching or not… although I probably don’t have the pieces to do matching…

Personally, I wear denim on denim all the time in Summer! And don't worry about the denims mismatching or matching. My faves are combining white with blue denim, or blue and white with blush denim. I also combine light and and dark blue denim.

I think it is on trend, and I did wear mismatched denim just last week when I threw on my darker denim jacket with lighter wash jeans.

The Cat, Thank you! I have always used shoes to speak for me. I have a pair of flat yellow pointy rockstud Valentino look-a like, (yes, I do) haven't worn in a while now ----, just thinking, ha.

Well even as a Canadian ( ref the original Canadian Tuxedo ) , I just can’t do it . I know it’s often trending , and I know many in the fashion community wear it , but I’ve never had one moment where I considered it or thought it was a look I wished to emulate .

Lisa, I have to chuckle. Actually, I have not been able to do it. I have thought about it and considered it, but decided against it every time. So, that is the reason I am here asking approval. Now that I have everyone's approval (except yours), I still don't know if I can do it. Thanks for your always honest opinions.

Hahaha! I heard the term Canadian tuxedo when my snarky son was remarking on my outfit while we at a restaurant. It might have been before I discovered YLF. I was wearing a thrifted denim jacket decorated with sequins. Of course, I thought I looked pretty good.

I wore a denim shirt and jeans … yesterday! The shirt is actually tencel, and western style with pearl snaps. And most of it was covered with a Christmas sweater. Actually, I would have liked them to be closer in color.

Lol! That doesn't mean I think my opinion carries any weight - it just is what it is. Different things appeal to different people!

I think this is a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure type of thing. Why not? We've had forum members put together some beautiful denim suit looks recently! If you're curious to try the look, it's an inexpensive experiment, if you have vintage and thrift stores in your neighborhood, and some patience.

I currently own three pieces of denim altogether, so I'm seeking my adventures elsewhere. But if the right long sweeping denim jacket and some flares or bootcuts came my way, I'd pounce. I have some vague idea of Italian style, a sort of Dolce & Gabbana look, with lots of ornate accessories, or some velvet or jacquard textures.

I’ll have to look when I’m back home in a couple weeks, but I think people where I grew up wear jeans jackets pretty much only with jeans. Wearing one over a dress would likely be interpreted as having been in a bind of some sort.

I like the look of denim on denim - especially when the pieces have the loved and worn look. But I can also visualize a dark and tailored denim suit in very modern tailoring.

What Angie said. I most often mix white and blue denim and maybe that is because I don’t own any of the same shades of denim. But I do not mind the same shades together on others. Do whatever you want.
