Or one reason I'm not around much on YLF right now

Currently am trying to plan a camping road trip. I'm not good at making decisions and there are a lot to make (mainly around fuel availability which has a domino effect around where to book other things).

So can't even contemplate shopping, though autumn has arrived. I can't cope with YLF polls, or posts asking which outfit is better!

(Also coping with a new sporting interest by DD15 that involves very early mornings - and our house runs to late nights - a spare hour or two can end up being used for naps)

Hope to be back in a while after this hurdle is over!

I only go camping. I cannot plan a trip at all. Too hard to pick campsites from so far away.

Do you do spur of the moment? Just turn up and hope there's a spot?

If it’s just up to me, I head for what we call National Forest. You head up a fire trail and make camp wherever. No campsites or only primitive ones. Yeah, you pretty much just turn up.

If it’s car camping with my mum, who will want developed sites, that will be weeks of planning, reservations and watching the fire reports. I make her do all the work for that sort of thing, lol.

If it’s backpacking - which I no longer do, because I want to take Lilypup, and dogs aren’t allowed on backpacking trails - I always went with someone who knew what a place was about. Where the water was basically.

I recently read an article about how the “5 am club” as a road to success is false, especially as being sleep deprived is harmful, so I’m glad you’re making up the shortfall.

Is this a family camping trip or for another group?

FI. I think I read that article too, or something along those lines. Family camping trip.
RL. Distances are so vast in the north of our state that we need to plan, specially since we are travelling in the peak time. In the south west could probably wing it.

Yeah, when you go long distances you have to coordinate travel time and camp sites. Here in the US, the kicker is there are a lot of unpublicised sites that could make the trip timing easier, but you really don’t even know they’re there until you drive by. I say it’s very rude! Lol.

Yay, DH! I tend to do tons & tons of research on everything. Someone to pull the trigger would be great. Have a fun, relaxed family trip!

Exactly FI. I get lost in all the research. Someone to help is great. Also, DH is a satisficer, not a maximiser and that helps to get to a conclusion. Also he's not afraid of making phone calls - I use a lot of emotional energy doing them, and lots of the places had weird online booking glitches (eg one place wouldn't accept a form because we hadn't added animals despite 1) not taking any animals 2) no spot on the form to add them anyway!)

So ta da, it's all done.Thanks for the sympathy all!! One more of school holiday and then I'll be ready for the small amount of shopping I have planned for the winter.

I feel you on all the decisions that go into booking a holiday! Glad yours is all booked - a road trip through the north west sounds amazing.
I need to get on and do the same for my family's next trip. Enjoy the school hols, they always go so quickly.

Enjoy those kids while they're still dependent. It's not too long until they're not. YLF will still be here, I expect! Was for me.

Shiny, I think of you often actually.I am a little older than you were when you joined I think. Oldest is nearly 16 and already pretty independent. And one day recently they were all out with friends on my day off. The youngest still likes to hang out with me. Need to be there when they are ready, for the others.
I think a long family camping holiday, no TV, not even internet at some points, will be a great opportunity for us all to be together as a family.
