Dear God, my shoes breed

I am taking this life change as an opportunity to weed through my closet. I have more shoes than I thought possible, and I hate most of them. Most are practically new, unworn, or in great condition. I can't believe this. Except for the Chanel black pumps, which have a tear on the patent toe, which is not repairable. Is there a Chanel heaven to accept them?

I’m sorry you have so many shoes you don’t wear. What happened? Maybe there’s something you can do to prevent that from happening?

I have a few pairs of “new” shoes that I have not been able to let go of. For me, it is usually because they pinch my toes and are just too uncomfortable to wear.

Can you sell any of them?

Are you certain that you hate most of them? Did you try on each pair? Sometimes I’m in a mood that leads me to disliking items or almost everything in my wardrobe. But then I make an outfit I like with the item or items and my assessment changes.

Do you buy them as reaction against your work shoes, wanting something pretty / fancy / soft, and then realize later the pendulum swung too far, so you reject them? Maybe come up with a different "recovery" routine instead.

To be honest, it's more accurate to say that the shoes have been accumulated over 20 years. I haven't bought new shoes in....2 years, I think. I do recall buying them thinking they were comfortable, and after wearing them for a handful of times, quickly realized my error.

Well, 20 years is a long time to accumulate. My shoes are not given time to breed. If they are uncomfortable, they go away quickly. Better to move along a brief fling than a long marriage.

My shoes wear out before they breed and I move them on! But if I had saved shoes from the last 20 years I would not have enough room in my house to accommodate them, because I collect them like crazy!

bj1111, imagination, fed by a simple suggestion, can be a powerful thing--much too powerful, lol. Trying to reset to a nice little pump/loafer connection just brings to mind "shoe 69".

Wardrobe culling is cathartic!
That said , I always become sentimental about my shoes and it takes forever for me to say goodbye to them....they continue to breed .

Just a thought about the tear on your Chanel pumps: How about covering it with a little nail polish in the exact colour? This is a trick I use from time to time, and thereby I have managed to elongate the life of some shoes, boots, belts, etc. (Where I live, small, unexpensive bottles of nail polish are available in many colours.) If the alternative is to let an item go, you have nothing to risk by trying the nail polish trick.
