Is to put your HANDS in them!

The last few jackets I have tried have the world's dumbest, weeniest pockets. They're clearly placed to allow me to put my hands in them, so why the heck are they so stupidly short and small? Either put in a pocket,or don't! Sheez.

I vote for having no pockets or for pockets that are deep and useful. None of this in between stuff.

i do have to add though, there is another purpose to pockets, specifically those well-placed on the back of jeans, which is to give us less-shapely girls the appearance of a backside

Hands? Mine are used for whatever my 2 year old asks me to hold. Yesterday it was a small plastic horse, spare hair clips and a sticker.

But YY to useful pockets. Items with faux pockets should carry a warning so that you don't walk out of the shop before discovering this fact.

I agree that teeny pockets are silly. Also silly...jacket pockets way back on the side seam. My arms don't bend that way.

Guh. So true. I just bought a pair of trousers and they had fake pockets that were like 2" deep. Not just fake slash pockets or welt pockets on the seam. Real pocket, pockets. But 2" deep. In (kinda) the words of Derek Zoolander: What is this? A pocket for ants?

I don't use my pockets, and I don't put my hands in them, so I don't mind so much:). Occasionally I might put my phone in my jacket pocket if not carrying my bag and if that fits I am happy.

Never thought of a pocket as a place to put my hands but more of a adding some visual interest to an outfit. Handbags are for wallets, mints and toys. Not sure that I want to add these bumps anywhere on my person.

cade, that's a great point - i have one cardi with useful pockets and i hate the way they sit and can't use them at all because they ruin the look of the cardi! oh pockets ...
