WHY do so many jeans come with this type of built-in distressing at the tops of the thighs?

Does it provide some flattering advantage of which I'm unaware?

Hehe, I agree. I'm all for choice and variety, but in the past few years, it's been difficult to find dark jeans without the whiskering!

I agree. I guess part of my objection is I don't like to spend lots of money on something that already looks worn out.

I agree, I go nuts looking for denim with little to no whiskering. And also denim with dark washes.

Whiskering is considered "cool". And it probably sold very well at retail so buyers bumped up the volumes. Now of course, like all good things, the look has flooded the market and we are left without an assortment of variation

On that note, it was SO HARD to find my Papa soft dark blue jeans sans any distressing a few weeks ago, (he is a few months shy of 80). Thanks to Levis we were sorted.

Agreed, especially in bootcut styles. LOFT has some non-whiskered options, but get this--the dark blue, non whiskered bootcut kind are "online exclusives"! At least, the petite ones are. Not sure about the regular sizes. Lame. I am sick of seeing nothing but skinny jeans (plus they never did look right on me).

I understand why the clothing manufacturers do what they do. The stuff sells or else it wouldn't be there. Still, that doesn't mean I have to like it or take it home with me. I wouldn't wear whiskered jeans even if they were given to me for free, and I could easily go a long time without jeans if that's all I could find. I didn't buy any new clothing during the '90s because I hated the styles. I hope I don't ever have to go that long without new clothes again, but I'd do it if I had to. I like what I like, and I don't like what I don't like.
