The actor Dean Jones Died today. In addition to starring in all those Disney features, he played Bobby in the original cast of the 1970 musical "Company." The following clip is of Mr. Jones recording an amazing piece about the power of love. Back in the day, they recorded 48 hours straight, on a sound stage in the center of Manhattan -- full orchestra in the room -- all "live." Notice the composer (Sondheim) in the booth -- Notice the cigarettes!
This clip captures a very special performance. The singer is worn out and wants to try once more to bring the song to life. Watch his face at the end --- the moment, at 2:20am, when he knows someone magical has happened. It's not about perfect technique, or skill. It's opening your heart to the song.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Jones
