De-orphaned mules? ETA pics added.

Funny story... I bought a pair of mules a few years ago. I was not necessarily looking for mules, but I WAS looking for navy dressy summer sandals, and they were navy. Have I mentioned I have a bit of a problem with navy shoes?

I grabbed them to wear with a dress while I was doing a K/R post - not to style them with the dress, but because they were handy and I needed something other than slippers. Angie made a comment about my shoes looking dated, and as a result I have NEVER worn them, despite them being brand new. But I've never purged them either... I also have a bit of a purging problem, esp with new items.

Well, I'm thinking that they just might fit the bill for this summer, if mules are "the shoe of the season"!! Talk about keeping up with trends while shopping my closet!

Side bonus: One of my style goals for the spring and summer is to concentrate more on developing navy as a neutral.

Oh!! I think they are beautiful. I would wear them. Of course, I would fall on my butt due to the heel height.

Personally I think there is too much toe exposure in front. Sorry to be a downer about them.

Oh -- I see what Angie means. I need to think about this and go review my current shoe wardrobe.

I think I would still wear them though. I see this type of shoe often in the southern United States. You're from Canada though, right, Elizabeth? Perhaps they are less common in the north?

Hmm, I'll have to check that out... it's something I'm fairly picky about so I suspect they are ok once they're on my foot. But if not, I think they've been hanging around enough to purge them. If they are back in style and STILL an orphan, then they must go

Can we see them on? I can't find the thread with the k/r post where you used them for styling.

I can see the potential regional mismatch, but that can be fun when deliberate.

I see what Angie means about them. I don't like too much toe showing but I have long toes so thought it was just me. And that is a pretty high heel!

Will definitely try them on when I get home!

I like them. I don't understand the thing about the toes. They're designed to show your toes, right? They're very pretty. And if you wore some pale pearlised nail polish... wow!

Thanks Jenni. The toes are a proportion thing... a strap too far back across your toes can look strange. I totally get that, just hope these are ok!

Sorry for taking so long... story of my life these days. But here are some pics of them on my feet. I don't mind the amount of toe showing. I think the side coverage is good, and from the top, while maybe is a bit exposed, I think the angle makes it ok. Actually I like it better in person than in the pic.

What say you? Am I out to lunch?

I like them. They will look even better in Spring and Summer, it's just hard to see open toed shoes in Winter although the season has been mostly mild.

I'm not a fan either, to be honest. They don't strike me as chic and modern as you are.

Wow - I am impressed you can walk in those!! You must be in very good shape.
PS. I am fine with their appearance, but also hopelessly ignorant about what is and isn't current. So don't mind me. I'm just in awe of your heel-wearing ability.

I have to agree with Angie and Lisa. These are nice enough, but your style is much more modern. These don't seem modern at all.

I hear what the others are saying, but isn't it about having fun with fashion, and isn't one's personal style about just the right mix for oneself? Also, we can't see what those sandals look like in 3D motion. I'm taking your word that they work. So what if these particular mules lean more toward Sarasota manatee rescue fundraiser picnic than to Toronto film festival edgy? Maybe intentionally incorporating sn element of datedness is a perfectly viable approach to outfit creation?

On another note, I know I feel more "coverage" on my feet when I'm wearing polish.

Well Elizabeth I don't know you and I don't know your style, so I can't comment about what the others say about that. I think they're attractive shoes and am not concerned by seeing lots of your toes!
I wore gold nail polish today to dress up some shoes for a special event. I would still love to see pearlised cream polish with those to bring out the sparkly bits. And since you were looking for dressy navy...
BTW I have no idea what a Sarasota manatee rescue fundraiser would be! I do understand a picnic and a Toronto film festival ! Cheers.

I'd wear them with a dark polish - navy or even dark green - and then I'd feel my feet were more 'dressed' somehow. They do strike me as poolside/resort moreso than urban. Do you ever vacation in Florida or the Carribean? I'd wear them to dinner at an all-inclusive.

Although technically mules they don't really read the same as the trend. The ones Angie posted aren't strappy and most have a high vamp and a lot of foot coverage. If toe is showing it's more of a peep toe style. But that's fine - it's more about whether you like them than whether they are trendy.

They do look elegant to me. I say give it a try. (I am also in awe that you can wear those heels!)

Thanks everyone. I think those that mentioned they weren't really "my" style hit the nail on the head. I bought them as one of my navy shoe HEWI's and at the time they weren't what I was after, but those navy shoe goggles... darn them... Obviously I didn't really need them, as I never wore them! And I wouldn't buy them now. But I have them, so was just thinking if mules are back "in" they might find a place. I think I'll keep them for this summer, see if they get worn, but I suspect they'll find a new home before too long.

There's also the "real life" thing. What I needed was dressy (work) shoes I could walk in, these are obviously aren't quite that. The heel height isn't an issue, they are quite sturdy, but they are definitely more "reception" or "dinner" shoes. Neither of which I do much of in the summer
