Oh wow, not a great indicator for the economy or the fate of the mall spaces they occupy. But I don’t think I bought a single thing in person there so I was no help.

I can’t say I’m surprised, their online site had such slim pickings, nothing compared to the US site, I was at the Ottawa store a few months back, and there weren’t many customers and stock seemed kind of sparse. When I went to the Rack, I was surprised at all the discounted inventory and thought, this ain’t good.

Upon reflection, I haven't bought anything from Nordstrom in a while. What Dee said is true. I do feel badly for those losing their jobs.

I did buy a bit at the Canadian Nordstrom's both in person and online. These are items still in my closet that I purchase between their opening in Canada and now. I did buy others also, but those are departed.

I guess the Vancouver store is an outlier, it's always very busy. Hopefully the Bay will hire some of the staff who will lose their jobs, they are definitely more helpful.

When I read the article, I checked the calendar hoping it was April 1 today.

The available stock online and in store was so dismal, it won’t really be missed. I preferred it when I could order from the US Nordstrom TBH. The exchange made it more expensive but at least we had much more on offer.

As kerry said. I bet it's been 2 years since I ordered anything from Nordstrom, but I sure was ordering a lot when they first opened here. There's a really great stylist at the Vcr location that I follow on IG- hope she lands somewhere worthy of her talents. But if they let us regain access to the US site, I'm fine with that

I am not surprised. I didn't buy anything from the Canadian Nordstroms. The stock was not the same as at the US site. When I went to the Toronto stores, they looked empty.

Over the years I bought some clothes, shoes and a couple of bags from Nordstrom. At the same time, I stopped shopping at The Bay. So, I will miss it. Don’t know where my tailor will go but I know I will follow her.

Well, I'm bummed. I haven't done much in store shopping since pre pandemic but I used to shop/browse Nordstrom all the time. It's been my go to for bras and undies, I've bought handbags and shoes there and other miscellaneous things. Their coffee shop was my go to place when shopping at the Rideau Centre. I'll miss it.

How on earth are they going to fill those large spaces! It's going to be hard to replace flagship stores at our largest malls.

Marilyn, that question about filling the large spaces is a good one. Our closest mall here has since filled in the old Lord & Taylor with a Container Store, but the old Nordstrom location has been empty for the last couple of years. At least they finally took the lettering off the building, it doesn’t look quite as sad, but still sad nonetheless.

Helena - yes I have . I’ve ordered everything from bath towels , a shower curtain, jeans , a couple of cardigans ( didn’t get worn much but only because I really shouldn’t have bought them to begin with ) , sandals , etc. They have a good website that is easy to order from , they ship quickly and everything is packaged beautifully . I’d love to see an actual store one day !

Simons could be a good replacement. I haven’t bought anything there but I’ve enjoyed browsing the Montreal and Quebec Stores. And they have some nice house lines as well as stuff at a wide range of price points and for different categories of shopper. Everything from trendy tween stuff to higher end.

Also, it is so true. If you don’t offer enough options, there’s nothing there for shoppers. Too much black and beige in store and not enough variety online.
