In honour of the darkest day of the year, I decided to go dark mermaid. This little mermaid emerged from the chilly, murky waters of Loch Ness, not the balmy, crystal waters of the Caribbean.

I wore my glimmer mesh top with a warm beige top underneath.

The plaid skirt is a scarf I bought specifically to wear as a skirt. I was desperate for a long, woolly, plaid asymmetrical skirt. I wore the scarf over a solid black asymmetrical skirt.

I wore brooches on my tweed jacket to amp up the dark romance. I am experimenting with wearing them on my hip. (Something extra for Jaime.)

My suede crossbody bag has abstract gold foil patches and funny little furry bits. Kind of ugly in a cool way. Lots of texture. Because it’s small and furry, it reminds me of a sporran, so it seemed right for the Highland vibe of this outfit.

Happy solstice, winter or summer!
