Dark Blue Chanel-esque Jacket-Yay or Nay?

I have been eyeing this jacket for months. The fabric has a coarse weave with a subtle sparkle to it. The colors are blue and black except for the trim which looks like a touch of denim. I really like it, and it fit me well--better than on the model honestly because it looks a little too boxy on her IMO. I might need to take up the sleeves.
It's a little pricey. That wouldn't bother me if I knew I would wear it a lot, but I don't have anything like this, so it feels a little hard to predict.
I think my biggest hang-up is that it is so dark. I think I would naturally pair it with dark grey or black, but honestly if don't wear dark colors that well. (Even though I do it all the time anyway.)

Any opinions?

I like it a lot. You can wear it dressy or put it with jeans.

It's lovely, Scarlet. I would buy it and wear it in a heartbeat! I can easily understand its appeal.

But.

A couple of questions/considerations:

1. It looks quite different than most of the clothes I've seen you wear; dressier and more lady-like. That might simply be because I haven't seen all your clothes! But I'm wondering how it will fit with your overall wardrobe, not only in terms of colour but also style. I do think it would look great with jeans, so in that sense it's no problem. It seems versatile.

2. You mentioned that you don't tend to wear darker colours. This one would flatter you, I think, with your hair. So it's worth a try because it is quite versatile...can go with denim, black, blue, or maybe softer neutral bottoms like grey and taupe and olive or sage green. Or rust. Hmmm. LOTS of possibilities.

3. Collarless jackets can be a bit of a style challenge for some of us. If you have a long neck you might have this problem although your hair would mitigate it to some degree. I often find with a collarless jacket I am reaching for scarves to fill the gap, and not every top will work underneath it.

I've seen it in the store and I really liked it! I think it would look great with jeans and I think you could wear it with lighter colours as well if you wear navy/grey/black boots or booties with it for bookending.

Suz--you are right that this is a different look for me. I don't have any dresses I can imagine it with, so I would wear either jeans or dress pants. Actually this would look really cute with my new black booties. Hmm. Give the folks at work a heart-attack. I do also find the collarless look a bit limiting. I like the look it's just not the most versatile.

Good point about the challenges, but sometimes it's nice to have a piece that departs from your norm and shakes things up a bit.

I think it's a very nice classic piece that would be fun to dress down with jeans and a variety of scarves and tops. It would look great with gray trousers too.

A big YAY from me. I love chanelesque jackets, and this one looks beautiful. AND, I think they're especially great when they're dressed down with jeans, booties...I think you could style this jacket in a very Scarlet-esque way and it would look FAB.

Are you ordering online i take it? I say just go for it, spend some time playing dress up at home and see if you're feeling it. If not you can always return! I like the texture on it!

I think it looks very "Scarlet." I treat navy as a neutral and put it with all my bright and light colors. Do you have any mustard tops or bottoms? I think this jacket would be amazing with mustard!

This is gorgeous. It reminds me of the Hinge jacket that several of us bought a while back. You could dress it down with ease. I say yay!

Another vote to get, try it out with some things in your wardrobe and then decide. I know what it is like to love something but think whether it will get worn often. If it is pricy you do not want to have it sitting in your closet because it was just too dark. I do listen to those first questions. They usually are right no matter how much someone else would wear it. Do you wear white jeans? I like that idea but that adds the contrast. I do not wear much light on the bottom in general but love the idea for you!

Honestly I hadn't even though of wearing this with my super-pale or white jeans, but Angie, you are so right about that. I think this jacket could be a good direction for me. I would love to get some new blouses to wear with this and other things in the new year.

Alaskagirl--you are right about the Hinge jacket reference. I have been admiring that one on everyone big time for a year now it seems!

I think I can return it within two weeks if I decide it is not right, so I think I will go back for it and try to put some outfits together at home.

I really like it if you feel it fits your style. I would wear it with cognac, taupe, grey, green, and any number of other colors. I'm not sure there's much you could not wear it with.

Love the idea of pairing it with something casual adding loads of pearls (more homage to Chanel) for an unexpected twist.

you know... i view this jacket as essentially a jean jacket that dresses up very casual outfits. how euro chic with a striped tee and white jeans and tennis shoes. i know you think that the collar is limiting, but i bet once you have your mitts on it, you'll wonder how you ever did with out it.

I like it a lot. If your wore it with pales as Angie suggests you could do matching/closely toning tops and have your "column of color" be in the inside instead of the outside. That way you aren't stuck only wearing it with darks. This would work with the gray people are suggesting, too.

Cool jacket! I definitely concur with the recommendation of pairing it with white jeans. It looks like the slightly cropped shape would work well with lots of dresses, too.

I'd be all over this. I don't find collarless jackets limiting although I've just learned that they aren't my best look. It would look great over fine-gauged turtle necks in cream or light grey, a white or chambray button down and grey jeans,cords or trousers. All with a boatload of pearls, natch. Bring it home to play and then decide.

Well I love blues so I am biased, but I think this would be lovely on you. You can also pair blues with greys, creams, pinks, purples, reds. Some great color choices. This gets my vote.
