Danier Update - Should I order it?

Danier Update! even though customer service told me there was no way to get actual measurements, they left me a voicemail this afternoon! so the good news is that none of you fab Canadian ladies have to help me with my research.

Now the question is whether or not to try it. The bust and shoulders sounds perfect in the 2xs, but the waist and hips could possibly be small. shipping is 25 dollars... Lining is 50/50 rayon poly, which should work. What to do??

How fab that they left you a message Rae! They do have very good customer service. And I'm glad because I left a message on your other thread that not a single Danier store in my home town has this jacket - sold out.

My feeling is if you can eat the $25 shipping - which is non refundable for returns, plus an additional shipping cost at your end if you need to send it back - then it is definitely worth trying.

FWIW "my" jacket isn't available in stores here either so I have gone ahead and ordered it in two sizes and will return the one that doesn't fit, or both if they don't work out. I decided it was worth it to me to try.

Can you get someone with your same size measurements to try on a jacket in XXS and xs to test the difference out? Might help save you the cost of returning and even shipping another size.

Does Danier even know what kind of following they have here on YLF?

I think they should mark it somehow... e.g. free shipping to US every once in a while...?

Rae, the shoulder and chest fit are the most important especially if you don't plan to wear it zipped up. I am a bit larger on the bottom than I am on top and the jackets that fit well in the chest/torso are often snug in the upper hip but the smaller size looks better.

If you love the look, I think it would be worth it. I find their jackets are quite nicely made.

Dianthus, thank you for the extra info on fit! If I remember from other threads, they usually suggest sizing down to account for some relaxation of the leather, too.

Rae, from what I've heard so far, it doesn't look good for the stores having the style in stock. :T

Gosh, this is sure a tough one... have been agonizing all day. I even found a bebe moto that is real leather and lined in acetate, but it just doesn't seem like The One White Leather Jacket For All Time, while the Danier definitely feels like it has potential. Return shipping with USPS would likely be around $40, though.

I agree with Thistle, they need stores in the US! I would size according to shoulder fit since leather tends to stretch a bit.

Well, I got my True Religion jeans order today, and they didn't work out at all, so I think I'm going to try this jacket! After studying the pictures on the models, I see that "mine" has a curved bottom hem and should only come down near the hip bones, as opposed to others that come down to cover some of the booty. I think that gives me a good chance. Hopefully it didn't sell out in the time it took to decide. *crosses fingers*

Rae, what was the issue with your TRs? Mine came too and were huge! Like prison-issue huge, in my size. I am considering reordering smaller, but would like to know your opinion.

And yes, order the jacket. I can't find the one I'd PMed you about, but if I do, I will still send the details. But it is not leather or lined.

Una, I got a different wash than Angie's/Mo's, plus Amazon sent me the incorrect size. I wanted 26 and got 27, which strangely were barely slouchy at all. How is that for inconsistent? I took pics, but I have to wait until tomorrow to upload, because DH has my camera cable.

Deborah, thanks for encouraging! I am still uncomfortable ordering internationally, but this baby looks worth the risk.

First, dianthus, that's interesting. I have the opposite problem where jackets can be loose in the waist but tight in the chest, and I always order smaller too! I just think that's fascinating! I guess nobody likes a sloppy jacket.

Rae, I don't really know how all that shipping works for your budget, but I completely adore this jacket! You have my support for going for it, it is really special!

Adelfa, I have been spending WAY more than I used to recently, it's true. In my defense, I have very little living expenses, hardly bought anything new for the past 10 years (while I worked at the bank, 90% of my clothes cost $1 at the flea market), and I don't plan to make a habit of it. I also sell most of what I purge to offset the expenditures, and I do make a lot of returns because most things don't end up working out.

I haven't been following YLF much so not sure if I'm off base but if you're looking for a white leather jacket they have one xs Michael Kors like Angie posted. She didn't post white but Topanga Rack had one left tonight. Go in the AM if you can. I bought a small.

Rae, I'd be tempted to do what Shannon did, and order both sized. yes, you know you're wearing return shipping, but if they are selling out, that's a whole lot better than getting one then wishing you'd got the other. I really like being able to compare.

Speaking of international shipping...I'm so so so tempted to try those Leith pants, but having a hard time for the same reason!

Rae, if it doesn't work and you are willing to schlepp to Pasadena, I would totally try it on and maybe take it off your hands. We could have lunch or drinks and make a meetup out of it!

If if you go for it, I like the idea of ordering both the potential sizes - as long as it's the same basic shipping cost - that way at least you will be confident that you have the size you want for such an investment piece. The return shipping is part of the fee, but your mind might be more at ease...

Well, I took the plunge and ordered the 2XS! The XS would not have worked in the bust and waist at all, so there was no need to try it. The SA was super helpful and was able to give me additional measurements for length, waist, and measuring technique of the actual jacket sizes in question (as opposed to the body measurements of the first size chart they sent me).

Now I bite my nails for 2-3 weeks!

Thank you ALL for your Danier knowledge, photos in the YLF archives, and encouragement to talk to customer service. I would have written it off as an option otherwise. (Elle, I'm after a different vibe from the Rack jackets, but that was a stellar idea, too!)

Oh, Rae - I am late chiming in here because I was in transit yesterday! I am glad you ordered and I hope it works! For reference, I take the XXS in most Danier jackets that I have tried. So based on what I know, I think this will work for you. Crossing fingers!
