Danier leather vs. The Vince leather jacket

Hey, I was wondering from the ladies who have those knockout Danier leather jackets if you think that's an option for me. Yesterday I tried on the amazing paper leather Vince jacket at Neimans and though I loved it, I am choking on the price tag. Danier seems so reasonable.

Also, how does their sizing work? I noticed they go down to xxxs and that just seems so confusing to me as I usually am a small, but now I have to determine "which small?"

Do they do shipping to the U.S.? Are returns easy?

They do ship to the US according to their site. I think Rae and Vicki have ordered from Danier.

Probably best to review the size chart. I agree it's totally confusing even for me in the mid-to-large range because somehow I might qualify as a SMALL??? (8-10)

I have ordered from Danier over the phone, and the salespeople were very nice and made it painless.

For sizing, I am usually a 2 in jackets and tops (2 at Brooks Brothers, 0-2 Ann Taylor, XS Banana Republic, 38 at H&M) and took an XXS at Danier. They can get you actual measurements of the jacket you want, too.

To compare the jackets, I should say that Vince paper leather is much, much lighter weight than what I've seen from Danier. They might not all be like that, but it could be worth telling the customer service people in what temperatures and circumstances you would like to wear the jacket.

I have seen a couple of Vince jackets and they are amazing. Such lightweight leather! I have never seen such leather at Danier so if you are after a paper weight Danier may not work.
However Danier quality is still very good, especially for the price (I have 4 jackets and one trench so I am dfinitely biased). They are not all created equal though so it may be hard to jugge from online pictures.
As for the sizing it runs big: you would need to size down at least one size from your regular. You can look at their size chart and it is pretty accurate. If you wear S usually I would try XS and XXS in Danier. What is your numeric size - 0?2?4? Their chart says S = 8-10, M = 12-14. My normal size is 10-12 so I am usually M in Danier but sometimes need to size down to S

Your link has a "t" at the very beginning of it...I think if you edit and take that t out you will be fine!

Very beautiful jacket at Danier, but personally I would be afraid to order it online.

Kary, I'd be happy to do some checking at Danier for you if you like. I own two Danier jackets. As Sveta says, the quality is good for the price and the sizing is generous. I wear a 0 or 2 in most US sizes in jackets (depending on the maker and the fit I am after), a S at Zara. My Danier jackets are XXS.

The leather at Danier does vary, with some jackets being much nicer quality than others. The one you linked to looks good -- however, it would be a much heavier weight coat than the Vince. It looks like one of the autumn styles designed to be worn primarily as outerwear. Which in our climate means it has to have some heft.

The lightest weight leather jackets at Danier tend to come out in the spring/ summer season (although not all those will be lightweight, and none that I have seen are as lightweight as the Vince).

The Blink collection tends to be made from thinner, more pliable leather. Mona, Sveta, Transcona Shannon and I all own a Blink jacket. Mine and Shannon's (we have the same style in a different colour) feel more substantial and heavy than Mona's and Sveta's because in ours, the overlapping panels of leather make for a thicker construction.

I love my Danier jackets but am still on the hunt for a thinner jacket that feels more "indoor" wearable. The taupe blazer pictured is pretty good (the knit panels on the sleeves help make it very comfortable for indoor wear). But it's still quite substantial.

My white jacket, while I can and do wear it indoors in the spring and fall, is primarily outerwear for me. It just feels a bit too heavy inside with central heating. It's not the heat of it (it breathes well.) It is just the "feel" of it -- it doesn't have a lot of drape.

And both of these are relatively lighter weight jackets for Danier. Don't forget they are made in Quebec. Where it is COLD for most of the year.

Sorry in advance for a lot of information, but I'm assuming you live in the States, and won't be able to get to a store to try on in person...

Check the measurements on the Danier site. I thought someone reported, some time back, that because the apparel is cut and sewn by hands, there may be some discrepancy in sizing.

I tried on a bunch of leather jackets this summer when I was in Canada. For reference and comparison, I'm 4'11", 30DDD chest, around 110 pounds, and I generally wear a XS/2 for tops (I don't wear button-down stuff), and a 2-4 in pants and skirts. I got an XXS for my Danier jacket. I LOVE my jacket. I wear it with everything, open or closed.

With some of the Danier jackets, the XS was a better fit across the chest and waist - but when I tried on, I was about five pounds heavier, and a solid size 4. I've lost some weight since. For XS, I found the sleeves were uniformly a little too long for me, and the shoulders were a little wide. I cannot recall if there were any petite sizes, or if I tried any on. I bought my jacket in the XXS (not a petite), because it looked great worn open. Now it fits great, zipped up. It stretched a little, but the big difference I see is how much softer and lovelier the leather has gotten, with wear. I also bought the Danier weatherproofing spray, and so far, my jacket still looks pristine

The customer service was fantastic at the Oshawa store, and the clothes were beautiful! I will definitely go back, on my next trip to Ontario.

ETA: Jacket weight: Mine is a refined sort of moto, kind of mid-weight. I've worn it indoors and outdoors - it's been versatile as a substitute for a blazer. I started wearing mine in mid-October, in Atlanta, and it's been great, for 35F to about 65F, but then, I run cold. We had a week where it dipped below 35F, and I switched to a longer leather coat.

I realized I can't pay a premium for that paper thin leather, so I will have to buy a jacket that is an outdoor piece.

Suz I love your jackets on you holy cow! The fit looks perfect. I don't know if I dare to do white leather yet, but the taupe looks amazing on you both in fit and with your coloring!

I think I will focus on the black one from Danier, just because it seems so feminine, and I love the gold hardware so much. I love that it's not all cropped and has slim lines through the torso. I bet I would wear the xxs like Suz does. We are probably a good match for size.

I think I'd rather have a tighter fit that looks best open than a larger jacket that closes with room for a sweater. I most likely won't wear more than a tee or one of my cashmere uniform tees under this jacket.

I also have a Blink jacket from Danier and while it's the lightest leather I've encountered there, it's still far from paperweight. I wear it as outerwear over a thin merino sweater on dry mild winter days here.

I usually wear an M/L (8-10) but take an S consistently at Danier.
