LA Times has pretty good coverage, including this interactive map.
Already California's 15th largest fire, threatening SF's electric and water from Hetch Hetchy reservoir -- scary!

Just finding this and wondering about everything. Do you have your fur babies with you?

Denise, stay safe and keep us posted. You are in my thoughts.

Denise, hope you and your family are alright.

Thank you so much for your compassionate concern. I returned from my trip yesterday afternoon and started work immediately. It was not too smokey yesterday afternoon, but this morning was so bad you couldn't see any terrain, like a thick fog. Here is a link of an article with a current fire map.

If you look in the lower left quadrant (Southwest), you will see a small body of water quite near the perimeter of the fire. My home and business is Northeast of this small reservoir, approximately between the water and fire perimeter. So as the crow flies we are close to action but we have not been evacuated. Some people who were evacuated on Wednesday are now back in their homes. However some new areas, close to where my boyfriend lives (Northwestern quadrant of the map), are now under advisory evacuation. The firefighters have done an amazing job of protecting lives and structures. I believe only 25 structures have been lost so far.

Besides the smoke and stress of the event, by far the worst impact of the fire is economic. Our sales are at 25% of normal, so down by 75% due to the road closure, which has caused a lack of tourism.

Thanks for the update, Denise. So sorry about the impact on your business right during high season. So glad the fire fighters are doing such great work. Are your lungs going to be okay?

Denise, I'm so glad you are okay and have not been evacuated. But that is such a shame about your business. That is a real economic hit for sure! And smoke damage is so insidious. It's probably good that you managed to get away for a few days.

Oh Denise, breathing that smoke is so hard on the body. I keep thinking of you and continue to be thankful you and yours are still ok. Albeit, financially hurt no physically hurt.

Good to hear that you are hanging in there, Denise. The stress and disruption are bad enough, but the economic impacts of a huge wildfire on small business owners can be forgotten in the midst of all the drama. I know that during the recent floods in my province, once the flood waters receded, the coverage stopped and most people assumed that life went back to normal. That was true for some people, but quite a few of the small business owners are still trying to cope with getting their businesses back to their pre-flood state. For them, the effects of the flood are still ongoing and relief still seems a long way off.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the fire subsides soon and that the recovery won't be too arduous for you and your family.

Just wanted to chime in and say I'm glad you are safe. What a stressful time for you and your loved ones. Take care, stay safe, and keep us posted.

We've recently had Hurricane Irene (2011) and Superstorm Sandy (2012) to deal with, and areas around me are still rebuilding from both. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Denise, I have been watching this all on our news. I am thinking of you and praying for you. Take care.

Wow Denise - this must be so stressful! Thinking of you!

Thanks for keeping us updated Denise - glad your home is ok and that you and furbabies and BF are doing well. But what a tremendous shame about your business. I'm hoping this all ends soon.

The pictures of the fire on the news have been frightening. I'm glad you're all okay!

Was a relative of yours on NPR today? I read the article you linked to about your brother a while back and I think the last name was the same, though I only caught the sign off of the story.

Denise, how frightening! I hope the fire will skip your property. This is really a rotten luck for small businesses, I hope you can get some state relief.
Hugs! Thinking of you!

I have been following the news and feeling so concerned, so thank you for your update Denise. It is a relief to know that you and yours are out of immediate danger. Thinking of you, Penny

Thank you for all of the kind words. The fire is almost 150,000 acres or 234 square miles. The ash from the fire is falling and now threatening the SF water supply.

Pil yes my brother Steven was on CBS news yesterday, and NPR today. Initially CBS asked me to do the interview but I prefer handing these responsibilities to my brother. When NPR caught wind of it they did a phone interview with him.

Our business losses are putting me in a depressed mood. Today I cleaned cabins and for the third day cleaned toilets, we had to lay people off so I am doing extra work. When I'm not working I am escaping into episodes of Breaking Bad -- Skylar has it worse than I do!

ETA -- Thanks Anna, great link. The pictures of people watching the fire are also a fairly accurate representation of local style.

Oh, my! I am so sorry about the effects on your business!

I'm also binge-watching "Breaking Bad!" I"m midway through Season 3 -- how far have you gotten?

As of today the fire is over 179,000 acres which is about 180 sq miles. The fire is moving Northeast hopefully into rock walls without further fuel. That would halt progress of the fire. They have managed to protect most of the Yosemite assets. Ash falling into Hetch Hetchy reservoir (SF water supply) is still a grave concern. The fire has moved significantly North, East and South across Hwy 120. On the map it looks like the highway is damaged for at least 10 miles. I believe it will be a long term repair, which might force closure of our restaurant. The problem is I have no information from CalTrans who would repair the highway. I don't even think they've been allowed into the area as there is still active fire.

ETA -- it would be a temporary closure, hopefully the road will be repaired by Spring although if they don't get much work done ASAP we have snow to contend with.

Oh, no! So are you saying people won't be able to get to your business even after the fire is out?

I'm so sorry, Denise. It's brutal. Don't know what to say. How long can it burn? (Not a question, but a whinge.)

My mum has a bit of land, and my mum, bf, and me have been needing to go out that way to check it. Needless to say, we can't.

I'm sorry to hear it Denise. At first this was too close to home for me. We have had horrible wildfire seasons in Colorado the last few years (including this one) and since most of my family lives in rural Colorado we have had many many family and friends threatened. I've been evacuated several times and my grandparents have evacuated twice in the last 2 years. They had a property burn. I understand the devestating effects of wildfire on a tourism-based economy. My SO's brother-in-law is a wildland firefighter/smoke jumper for the NPS, so that adds another layer of concern for those far afield from us as we have someone on the front lines no matter where forest fires strike. We also recently lost a family business to flooding after the wildfires on Ute Pass and had a friend of the family be swept away and killed in another flooding event.

Take care of yourself and the dogs during this stressful time, including seeking relief from the smoke if possible/necessary. I'm glad you had decided to travel.

Keep in touch and wishing a swift end to fire season in your neck of the woods.

It's big enough that we've been having heavy smoke, dangerous air quality days for a week up here in South Lake Tahoe and even Reno.

Denise, it's no wonder your mood is suffering. You are staying busy, seeking support, and also finding an escape. I don't see how you could be dealing any better with this. The combination of bad reality with further uncertainty is just completely brutal.

watching the news this morning, and just wanted you to know that i am thinking of you and hoping that you and your family are all safe.

Denise, I was in Canada on vacation when this thread started but I've been following the news of the fire. I didn't realize how close to this you were! This has got to be so hard, and so scary, I can't even imagine. This fire is HUGE.

I wish I could help somehow. You are definitely in my thoughts. I will come out and support with my tourist dollars when the area is open again! I have been wanting to visit Yosemite for a long time (planned on it during my big cross-country trip, but Tioga Pass got closed for the first snow of the season).

Breaking Bad is a good diversion -- kinda puts one's troubles into perspective, huh? I got my husband hooked on it too -- he's now at about the same point MaryK is!

Big hugs to you, Denise.

I second binge watching of Breaking Bad. It's one of the most brilliant shows ever.

I'm so sorry about the effect of the fire on your livelihoods, Denise. That's truly just awfully rotten luck. I am hoping that after this door closes, a new window will open somewhere else.

Are your fur babies okay?
