Denise, I'm so sorry, I had no idea. Obviously I don't stay up on news very well. I know that you'll handle whatever you need to do really well. I am praying for help with your decision making as that is the hardest thing for me, especially when under stress. SO glad Coco made it home.

I would go on the trip, but with all my prized possessions packed in the car just in case, assuming they'll fit. I hear you on the epiphany of what's really important.

I say go. You will worry no matter where you are. The difference is you will be worrying in a safer place with good friends.

Please stay safe, Denise! Glad Cocolion made it home! Can you take your important stuff with you to Monterey?

Denise I hope you and your dear ones and your property will be safe.
I imagine this is a scenario you have rehearsed for many times in the past so in the end you will make your decisions in line with the protocols you know you have to follow.
Thinking of you and the poor, dear country.

How scary for you, glad coco is home safe. I'd still go on the trip, at least you'll be out of harms way. I'd take your evacuation bag with you then if things take a turn for the worst you're already away from the danger x

Oh, goodness Denise! What an awful situation. I agree with Louise. I'd go on the trip and take you evac stuff. Stay safe..

Stay safe, Denise. Will be thinking of you until you have assurance that things are good.

Denise, no advice but I am thinking of you and trusting for your safety.

i will be thinking about you and following the news. please be safe, and keep us updated if you can.

How horrible! And stressful. I hope the wind goes where you want it to and the fire is under control soon.

Oh, Denise. SOOOOO stressful. You poor thing, your poor family and your poor fur babies. I'd have lost it if my doggie were lost in the smoke. Thank the angels your baby returned home and is safe.

Stay safe and keep your BF and fur babies close. Now is the time to stick together no matter what. Good job packing evacuation bags. Really hope the wind keeps blowing in your favour. Keep us posted. If there is anything that was can do to help - do not hesitate to ask. Much love and hugs. xo

I'm so sorry Denise- your family is in my thoughts

Oh whoa. I didn't realise you were out in Tuolumne.

I'd go on the trip - but take my computers, portfolio, papers, and select artworks.

I am just reading this now, I'm so sorry, Denise, what a scary situation.
I'm so relieved to hear your sweet furbaby returned home safely and that you and your family are staying safe. Please continue to take care, I am thinking of you all.
(I like Mo's advice on the trip).

Please keep us posted?

The fire spread from 16,000 to now over 53,000 acres in the last 24 hours. I calculated at 640 acres per mile that is more than an 80 mile fire. The fire fighters are pushing the fire into the forest. They have succeeded in preventing any further structure or human fires. There are over 1000 fire fighters on the scene now, including the elite "A" team, the Navy Seals of fire fighting. The fire is moving mostly east and north which is really good for my family. The fire wants to move West towards us but the fire fighters are doing everything to prevent this, as that is where the population is (3000 people approximately).

I am going on my trip, I will bring my extra loved things with me. Everything else, I think I would be ok with losing so that is my plan.

Thank you again for all of your heartfelt concern, support and advice. There are 2000 homes closer to this fire and they are more threatened. They have it worse, as well as some of our other community hotels and restaurants. The only business in town that is open right now is the bar.

This is devastating our small business; our county Supervisors are trying to get disaster relief. We will lose $10-20,000 per week and up to $65,000 on a monthly basis from this. We have told some employees not to come in so they are suffering from loss of wages but it's too slow to merit our usual staffing level.

So sorry you are going through this! I'm glad to hear you've decided to go on your trip with your beloved belongings. My in-laws lost their home to a forest fire in 2000 (it started as a controlled burn by the Forest Service that got out of control) and weren't as prepared as they could have been.

Glad to hear this turn of events. Thanks for the update. I awoke to a very smoky sky today and there was rumor (false) that a fire was on Apache, a street less than a mile from my house. It is just the smoke blowing over from the American Fire nearby. Got me to thinking, though.

EDIT: the evening news weather forecaster says the smoke is from your fire, not the one to our West right now.

I'm so sorry about the business side of things, Denise. But happy that you and your loved ones are safe. Enjoy your trip. xo

Wow, Denise! I am praying hard for you and your loved ones. Sending you as much love and light as can possibly get there from me in Canada to you in California! Stay safe xo

Goodness, Denise, what a scary ordeal. A friend of mine just went through that with her family's home in Idaho while she was visiting. Such a bad year for fires. I am glad that you are safe and have had some time to prepare, but my thoughts are with you nevertheless. Hope that you are able to rest a bit on your trip.

The fire grew from 53000 acres to 105000 acres in24 hours. Gov brown declared a state of emergency. Our friends are under mandatory evacuation and stAying with my mom. I am still in Monterrey area, checking status. I packed another bag and left it with mom in case we're next. I'm enjoying better air. Ready to return at moment's notice. Thanks again for the emotional support. Sent from iPhone. Sorry for typos.

I am so sorry. I pray you and your critters stay safe.

Yeah I saw this on the national news last night. Hoping for the best for you.

Oh my goodness Denise! I am so sorry that you're going through this, but glad that you're in a safe place.

I hope that you can get that disaster relief for small business - it would help a whole lot. Best wishes that things will get doused and your business can recover ASAP. My family has their own business too - and sometimes people tend to think, "Oh, you have your own business?" and assume there's lots of money for all kinds of things. As you know, this is absolutely not the case. It's scary to be responsible for your employees and make sure all the bills get paid. Nothing like having employees depending on you to make you feel like you absolutely cannot fail.

When it's a small business, you feel like your employees are family. There's a lot more pressure than most people realize.

I really hope this awful fire gets dealt with and that next year is much, much better.

Hang in there Denise - what a stressful situation to be in.

You're in my thoughts! Trying to think up all kinds of rain (torrential downpours) for your hometown.

VCHoc thank you for those thoughtful comments. Your understanding of small business is spot on. The other thing about small business is that your assets tend to be tied up in the operation.

Any more news? Thinking about you, Denise.

Denise, I am wondering about you, your family and fur babies too. You are in my thoughts a lot. How are things now?

Oh my goodness, Denise, I am so sorry to read about all this. I am hoping and praying for your situation.

Just thinking of you and hoping all turns out well for you and your family.
