Cutting fringe off a scarf

Has anyone successfully cut off fringe off a pashmina-like scarf? I believe Vani was going to attempt it a while back. I did a practice run on a cheap H&M scarf and I am not thrilled with the results. I tried to leave about 2mm per your advice, Angie, but it looks odd. Any tips? Pictures would be very helpful too.

Why does it look odd, Marianna? All of the scarves you see me wear in pictures (apart from the Burberry scarf) have been hacked of their fringe. Does it look odd to you too?

Really, Angie? I just assumed that you find scarves without fringe. On some scarves I could see getting rid of it easily, but with not pashminas. Odd is not the right word, I just can't get it to look tidy and I am afraid to cut more. Do you actually keep little stubs to keep it from unraveling?

It might be the quality of the scarf, Marianne. The fringe is not that evenly spaced. But it doesn't look bad at all.

Marianne, I think Angie is spot on. It looks like the fringe is unevenly spaced which might be what is making it look a little off to you. But unless you know you're looking for it, you can't even tell The Target scarf I tried this with had a long, very closely spaced fringe which made it easier to do the chop-chop.

Thanks for validation, Angie and Vani! I see your point about the spacing and it's different indeed on my other scarves. I am just nervous about taking the scissors to them.
