Current hairstyles?

I'm considering cutting my hair to a shorter (jaw/ear- length), bob with bangs - currently it's a slightly longer shaggy bob that just looks like a mess all the time. What are the current trends in hairstyles and bangs/fringes? What is considered modern and what's on the way out? Are bangs long or short or pushed to the side? I've been looking online and at magazines but am still not sure.

I'm not interested in a pixie as I was pushed to wear that style in my high school days and then told by my parents how I resembled Julie Andrews - very traumatic in the 1960s!

Ginko, a picture of your hair as it is now would help. What works on one head might not on another!

My hair is coarse, thick, curly, and coming in white. I like wash and go styles, but can wield a few simple tools. I'm not good with upkeep since I tend to go 2-3 months between hair appointments.

I've had a short pixie variation with long curly top (#1) and undercut sides and back most of 2016 but have grown it into what my stylist calls a French Bob (#2-3) I plan to end up with a Flapper Bob (#4) It is a fall back hairstyle that seems to work with my hair type. It might trend - if fashion follows and the movie 'Fantatic Beasts and Where to Find Them' inspires fashion.

According to one trend report (Pinterest) short hair is trending. I've also seen an article that suggest mid length hair (with or without bangs) with little product and natural texture is going strong (2016 and forward). I think bang trends suggest the need to be fearlessly purposeful - either baby-bang short, or eyelash grazing long, or so long that they aren't really bangs at all.

As Carla has said a picture of your current hair would help. Ginko I am another one who was traumatized by the pixie cut. I have no plans to go there again. Fine for others.
When I last got my hair cut about 2 months ago the shag/bob combo seemed to be trending. The bangs were longish and texturized. Pretty high maintenance bangs. I trim them myself. I have hair that is fine to medium textured but not thin. I would not say it is thick but more medium amount. It can get a wavy to it when there is humidity in the air.
The first set of pictures are how I got my hair cut last time. The next one are what I will go for this time. I liked the shag look but it was just a bit too much maintenance for me.
Both are medium length with bangs.

Bobs are so classic that I don't think you can go wrong.
I have a medium shag (growing it longer) with bangs that I get cut just above my eyebrows because I am trying to go as long between trims as possible since I am letting it grow.

I have a short ear-length bob that is very easy to style and maintain. It's much easier than shorter hairstyles because I have several cow licks.

Carla, I love that Flapper Bob. The shingling at the back is such a good touch, especially for textured hair.
