Cross-body bags

I haven't had a cross-body bag since the early 80s! But, seeing some of you sport them makes me realise that they can be hip and are much more functional than some of my huge totes (depending on what I'm up to on any given day).

Do you like the look of this one? I have seen other purses by this brand, Botkier, and they were lovely quality but I'm not sure if this in the brown would look fun and groovy or just strange.

What do you think? What should one look for in a cross-body bag? I'm almost 6 feet tall and a size 16 so I think a tiny bag looks strangely disproportionate on my body. I am also in my 40s so want something that doesn't look too young on me.

Are there any cross-body bags that you especially love?

I like the second one better. the first one seems a bit boho to me. You could tire of that more quickly.

Thanks for the input, Queenie. Although I'm too scared/ embarrassed to put photos of myself on this site, I can tell you that my style (or, what I'd like to be my style) is not at all boho. And, I can see how the first purse could be a bit too hippyish for me.

I like them both! I think the second one might be more in scale with your figure.

Oh, and I am also really interested in the cross-body bag. I think it's really cool, and there are some great option on the market. Plus it would be more convenient for shopping, etc, to have a bag like that. Maybe you should head to the shops and try some on and see what you think!

I second the suggestion to try them on IRL. I have casually checked out a variety off crossbody bags and realized that some are really too small to be in proportion to me, some are too big, some are too bulky, some too east-west in proportion, some too stiff to lay nicely against my body, etc.

I just decided on one the Angie has in the YLF store - Fossil's Sutter Crossbody.

Anyway, I know I am hard to please and it was worth it to try on lots because I was not thrilled by most of them. . . but I t hink I will really enjoy the Sutter!

Just a thought on the first bag, although the fringing has elements of boho if worn with a modern classic outfit your will not look boho, rather that you are incorporating the fringing trend into your wardrobe.

I think both styles are lovely. I personally find smaller cross body bags more comfortable.

Mac, as we're both tall, I think it's best to try cross-body bags on. Sometimes the strap is too short and hits in a weird place. Or, make sure the strap is adjustable. I like both bags you linked to and think they would look great on a larger frame. Anything smaller might not be as flattering.
