I have had these navy cotton pants for about 6 years and never wore them. They fit beautifully around the waist but I’m thinking of cropping them. I’ve cuffed them here and wondered if the shorter crop looks better.
The khaki top is one my sister has given me. I like the colour but wonder about the style. She has also sent these wide pants which are far too big for me and are hanging on my hips here. My first thought Is to pass on but I feel a bit uncomfortable as she has given them to me. Could I crop these and take them in as well?

I like the idea of cropping the navy pants - they really look nice on you! I'm not a fan of the wide pants : they are too big as you say and probably not worth altering . The top is fun - you could probably style it with jeans or white/ivory bottoms and some gold jewellery?

I like the navy pants especially in cropped length. No love for wide leg ones ( you are not obligated to keep them ). Not sure about the top - kinda tricky to style.

That’s a good length for the blue pants. You could wear them cuffed instead of cropping, depending on the vibe you want.

The brown pants are tough. I wanted to say “next!” before I even looked at the pic, because the wisdom dropped on my recent off-forum topic about getting gifts I don’t want (in a family that insists on physical gifts) was that we are not obligated to keep things given to us by others. But they are such a cool color and I like the general idea of them so much. Taking them in would mean more than just the waist—can you ask your alterations place how much? Then again, at the end of winter you’re probably at your heaviest weight, so it would be an even bigger job.

Wouldn’t reverse manifestation be nice? Instead of putting our wish out there and having olive loafers show up, if we could put unwanted stuff out there and it would vanish, no guilt or effort required?

I like the crop on the first pair! The second outfit, if the pants don't fit, I don't think your sister intended for you to shell out a bunch of money to make them fit, and even then how much you liked the outcome is a big question mark. Pass! I would like to see that top styled with something else. Right now the look is a little Jedi ;).

Yes to cropping the navy pants and to the khaki top. Generally pants aren’t worth the alterations. Are they elastic at the top with no darts, pleats, or pockets? If yes, it might be worth slimming the sides and re-threading the elastic. Otherwise, an alteration will throw off the darts/pocket placement, etc.

Oh whoops! Just seeing that the same top is in both photos. I actually like the look of the top better in the second photo, because it looks like maybe you tied it differently? I like that look when the tie goes around the waist to accentuate the waist. I think there's potential there.

I say yay to cropping the first pair of pants--they look great at that length! I also really like the top and the big pants--that loose silhouette is quite trendy right now :). Throw on a pair of boots and you are looking chic in my book!

I like the length of the navy pants, a little ankle makes such a difference.

The fabric combined with the style makes it a little too hospital reminiscent for me? I'm not sure I can envision another way to wear the top except the way you're wearing it here and because it's not a special occasion look that would naturally be worn less often I would be very unlikely to keep it.

I think you would probably always reach for something more flattering than the second pair of pants, cropped or not

Yes to cropping the navy pants. I’m in a minority - I like wide leg pants on you. If they are cotton, you can try shrinking them in a dryer. They might get smaller by a half the size and fit more comfortably.

Love the idea of cropping these pants. But it’s hard to judge the length without knowing what shoes you’d wear them with.
I’d pass on the shirt and brown pants. The shirt because, and maybe I’m projecting, you don’t look comfortable. And the pants because I’m not sure it’s worth the investment.

Yes to cropping the navy pants! I like the Star Wars wrap top too

The wide pants look good in the photo. The width is very on trend. But if they're sliding down and too big in the waist - then they don't fit and that will be annoying as you go about your day!

I am another one who likes the Star Wars wrap top! But you are the one who is wearing it. Cropping the navy pants seems to be a good idea.

From the bit I can see of the ‘gifted’ pants (your left, my right face on) they look big through the hip and seat, and not flattering. If they are a new item, can you return it to your sister with an honest explanation that the size is incorrect? If they are hand-me-downs, I say donate.

The navy pants look like a good summer weight, and probably would look better cropped vs rolled. They look like the kind of pant that would be better with a hem vs a frayed edge.

The olive Jedi top looks like a fun piece and the colour is good.

Thank you everyone. Sorry for the delay in replying. It was early morning here, I got up and went to my yoga class then dropped the navy pants off at the tailors on the way home so it was good to get feedback before I made the decision to alter them. They are a good brand (country road) and were quite expensive at the time so I think I am going to make a good effort to wear them cropped this spring.
Its good to see that the wide leg pants are a yes for some people. I guess Phoebe makes a good point that I would probably reach for something else if they are not a favourite. As Angie said if I have to keep pulling them up, its going to be annoying, they also have the potential to fall off my hips. They are a donation because they are too small for my sister. I might ask my friends if any of them are interested as they are a nice linen.
The top I really like the colour and I'm going to try with jeans. I don't have cream jeans as LJP suggested, but do have some faded blue jeans. I found a whole pinterest stream of star wars inspired clothing so might go for a star wars type outfit

I like the new length for the blue pants and also like the green top. I would pass on the wide legs - if your sister asks just say they didn't fit right (no need to specify in which way if you don't want) and you gave them away.

@DonnaF yes my sister lives in another country and due to Covid I haven’t seen her for 3 years.
@Jaime hopefully by the time I see her she will have forgotten about them. And I’m sure someone else would enjoy finding them.
@Zaeobi I’m not sure it’s worth it as I’m not a sewer. I have contacts with refugee groups so I’ll see if they can be useful to anyone else.
