@Rae-I'm so glad you asked whether I needed a suit. I really don't. I have other suits and suit separates I like better and would always choose over this combo. So the exercise now is really to see if either piece could be salvaged.
@girlX-If I had BOS, I would be wearing more leather, not working on this suit
getup : ) Angie-Does this mean biker chick is my fashion alter ego?!
@aida-The material does works to create a blouson hem and I tried this, but the look is trendier than what I'm comfortable with. I hope I'm not showing my age too bad. It was a great suggestion.
@cjh-the buttons and stripes are very dark navy, almost black. I have various pants, jeans, bermudas and skirts in black or saturated blue denim that will work. The patterned shirt is a great idea. I have very few patterned tops in my closet, so that will be homework. I need to get my color from shoes or jewelry because I rarely carry bags.
From previous suggestions, I tried rolling right under my knee, but didn't like that either. The only length I like is bermuda shorts above the knee. I think my new dressing rule might be no pants between 10 inch inseam shorts and full inseam pants. Every other leg length looks frumpy on my body-- I think it's a combination of short height and curvy thighs.
The pieces will part ways. I already lived through the long jacket/bermuda short suit in the early 90's and I keep having visions of Angus Young in an English school boy uniform.
I like the jacket and the way it fits. I just don't want to look dated. Should the hem be shortened as @Suz suggests? I prefer shorter, but I'm concerned that the lower pocket will lose proportion if the hemline is reduced. What do you think? I've added new pics to the original post. There is no jacket lining and I have a tailor that does restyling.
Pic 4-Current jacket hemline with white jeans (mostly to show full length pants, I think I would prefer dark jeans to create contrast)

Pic 6-Paper clipped the hemline 2 inches shorter.
