Cropped Cardigan - what to wear with it?

Over year ago I got a lilac short sleeved cropped cardigan from the Loft. It is fitted and has an eyehook at the bodice. I have worn it with a black top and black slacks. I don't see too many worn downtown, but Angie mentioned they are still popular in Paris, so I thought I would give it another try. Do you have any suggestions for other outfits with the cropped cardigan?

I see them the all over the place here. The possibilities are endless: over cami or printed top or blouse, with jeans, clamdiggers, white jeans, walk shorts, skirts, even over dresses. Colors I like with lilac are cream, navy, grey, lemon yellow, some greens and pinks.

For example the simplest outfit with be over white cami with dark jeans/denim skirt skirt.

If you look at Shiny's posts in the "What I wore today' section, she has so many beautiful combos with various cropped cardigans and is quite an inspiration. Shiny, you can be named our cropped cardigan queen!

Hmm. I’ve seen the lilac cropped cardigan and it’s sort of the wrong silhouette to do a lot of what Tanya has kindly suggested. The rounded front and high hook and eye closure make it more of a bolero top fit for wearing over sleeveless frocks. Do you know what I mean, Eva?

Tanya, thanks for the suggestion for Shiny's posts. Very good options! I have a black cropped cardigan like Shiny's. I like it with the black/white skirt and will try that one.

I still stand at my previous color suggestions, but for the shapes, I am afraid I'd have to see it on. Is there a chance you'd be willing to post a photo of yourself in a possible outfit with this cardigan?

I have a nearly identical cardi, but in a pastel pink, from AT that I bought two or three seasons back. It's a tad too big on me now, since I lost weight, I think... or maybe my eye has changed, and I've gotten used to more form-fitting clothing. I haven't worn it in a long while, but I seem to recall it is shorter than my other cropped cardis. I wore it last summer with a few dresses.

I agree with Tanya on color combos! Except I'd add white to the list. Try it on and experiment and take pics for us.

It's a cute cardi. It looks like it would look best over sleeveless summer dresses. I could imagine white, navy blue, black, and maybe yellow to look good with it.

Antje, I don't think any of my dresses will match. I tried it with a light yellow sweater and I think it would work.

I like these two necklines together. When the cropped cardi came out a few years ago I was not a fan but now that I have gotten used to them I do like them and now own a few. I especially like the lines and color of the one you have and it shouldn't be a closet orphan. I think if you added a necklace to what you have on in the last picture it would be finished and looks great to me.
Or maybe the right colorful bangle on your wrist would finish it.

I like it, Eva. The contrasting necklines, as san mentioned, do look nice. The jacket really makes you look slim! It looks sophisticated with the black.

You know I'm going to say I love it.

You do not have to stick strictly to matching sweater material, Eva. Try it with a cami or a silk blouse or a finer knit wear. Anything goes. Do try this with cream or white top too.

I think this is the color that Angie mentioned may be hot this fall? Lilac?

Because the bolero style closes at the bust, it draws the eye towards the bust. So for work I would stick to a modest neckline just like you've chosen - for a hot date, you could go lower. Depends on your goal! I wear my identical pastel pink bolero with a particularly sexy dress I own, one with a sweetheart neckline that flaunts my cleavage, for hot dates with my hubby.

I just want to add that I have regular cardis too - I'm just on a cropped jag at the moment!! I like the look because I think it balances me out proportionately, makes me look taller, and draws the eye up to my natural waist, which is rather high.

Love the cardi....I'd wear it with white jeans, a white denim skirt, or white clamdiggers/crops, and a white cami, or short sleeved scoop neck top--a fine knit, not tee shirt type of shirt. And green shoes. DId I mention I love green and purple together?)

Thanks for the suggestions! I have the white jeans and cami (and of course white and cream knits. No green shoes, Nicole, but I have shoes in red, coral, yellow in addition to the "standard" colors. I will try one of those. Oh and navy! Maybe I will try that tomorrow for work.

Okay ladies. I tried 3 outfits. I didn't wear it to work today, so let me know your thoughts on the pant selections. I can wear it tomorrow. (I wore the skirt on Monday.) I tried it open and closed. I think it works better open, because I am pear shaped (as you can clearly see) so when it is closed, I look smaller on top - which doesn't help the bottom!

I LOVE how you look in the first picture with the shark skin pants. What a great sweater and it looks good in all the pictures. I like it buttoned for the most part, still looks good unbuttoned too though.
Your pointy toed shoes in the first picture are great and I am not usually a fan of pointy toes.
You look great and you look like an hour glass to me.

I love all of them, but I am with San, I think I like the shark skin pants the best. I absolutely ADORE the shoes!! So cute!

As for buttoned or unbuttoned: I think buttoned draws more attention to your chest, unbuttoned draws more attention to your teeny tiny waist. Unbuttoned looks more casual and nonchalant. I think you can go either way. If it were me, I'd probably spend half the day one way or the other... maybe unbuttoned at the office, then button it up when meeting my guy after work.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and compliments! Sharkskin tomorrow it is. I will do both open and closed. San, thanks for your nice comments. I am a pear, but not too different in size. I am a 2 on top (I call it my Asian half) and a 4/6 on the bottom (my Causasian half).
