I have a couple of pairs on the chopping block, which is good because I often have a hard time getting both sides to be even and I have a feeling at least one pair will become shorts instead of crops

Too funny! I just did that to a pair of mine! They ravelled A LOT, so I put a small zig-zag stitch along the cut edge to contain it. They look great, and I love the frays!
